Eleanor of Aquitaine Wrap-up with Extra History LIES

Welcome Extra Historians to Lies, where we talk about the mistakes we made and the details we couldn't quite squeeze into our Eleanor of Aquitaine Series. With questions like, Why wasn't Eleanor in the Robin Hood stories? Did Eleanor really dress as an amazon during the Crusade? And Why were there so many odd deaths like tripping over a pig during this time period?

Recommended Reading for this series:

Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life by Alison Weir

The Plantagenets: The Warrior Kings and Queens Who Made England by Dan Jones

Eleanor of Aquitaine: Queen of France and England, Mother of Empires by Sara Cockerill

The Great Courses has a great series of lectures called Medieval Heroines in History and Legend by Doctor Bonnie Wheeler that has five lectures on Eleanor.

The Robin Hood myths are based on the real life Fulke FitzWarin Lord of Whittington (b.1180 - d.1258) and his wife Maud(Matilda) le Vavasour. There is an account from the early 14thc called the Romance of Fouke le Fitz Waryn.

I want to see a series on the holocaust. It's important to remember the terrible human suffering that took place during WW2.

On Robin Hood; I have heard that the original "resident monk" in the Merry Men was Will Scarlett, who had been exiled from a monastery.

So... can we get that Extra Mythology episode about Eleanor?

Hi Martin, I know you post a lot, but it might be a little ungenerous to expect everything to be read and remembered, even important personal details. Especially since Extra Credits posts a lot of media, they probably have a staff that doesn’t keep track of us. Perhaps you could help us remember by putting (she/her) at the end of your user name? Or a picture of yourself that would give a visual indication?

Just a quick heads up to a comment posted in the first episode of the Blair Mountain series: I have previously stated I am transgender, so I'd appreciate it if you guys refer to me as she/her. Actually, Eleanor is in the Russel Crowe Robin Hood film, played by Eileen Atkins, so she is in at least one modern reimagining of the story.
