Hello, You Amazing Patreon Members!

Our next theme is a VERY special one, "Remember Pearl Harbor... Differently, This Time".

It's a story we all know—a delayed declaration of war, an early-morning air raid, and a sleeping giant awoken. But what parts of this story don't we know? Pearl Harbor, after all, was more than just a battlefield—it was a base that operated before the attack, and provided the staging ground for America's entire Pacific War. For many people it was a workplace, a home, or a nest of secrets and espionage. These are the stories we want to tell. Stories about the intelligence operatives working out of the Japanese consulate, who surveyed the harbor in disguise as pineapple plantation workers. The civilian experience of the battle, as Red Cross volunteers rushed to the burning harbor and students from the University of Hawai'i ROTC program were given rifles and sent to defend against the beach landing everyone expected to follow. Or what about the time afterward, when Hawai'i residents lived under martial law, blackouts, and heavy rationing (creating the islands' love affair with Spam), but avoided wide-scale Japanese Internment? We want topics that go beyond the standard treatments of the battle and help us see it in a new light.
Examples Could Be:
- Intelligence and Espionage in the Pearl Harbor Attack
- Salvaging and Repairing the Damaged Pacific Fleet
- Civilians in the Pearl Harbor Attack
- Roosevelt's Response to Pearl Harbor
- Japan Planning the Attack

I submitted the Asian American response and outcomes. Covering the different reactions to the event and outcomes that effected Asian Americans. So internment camps, repealing the Chinese Exclusion Act, Asian Americans who fought for the US, the Invasion and occupation of the Philippines(which the US controlled at the time)

Herkles

Although similar to the planning, I suggest looking at the battles that serve as inspiration for the attack, such as the battle of Taranto.

Oooo that sounds exciting!

Sponsored by you!!! I believe we were just trying to do something a little special for you all. :)

Extra History

I submitted "December 1941 Pacific Offensive" -- essentially, Pearl Harbor was the opening shot to a coordinated series of campaigns (Hong Kong, Phillipines, etc); this would be the world spanning story of that wider escalation.
