Something funny going on in the background with America, prior to the temperance movement beer had a competitor among more anglo originating Americans in the form of hard cider, prohibition however allowed the beer industry to overtake the more decentralized cider industry, which is also only now beginning to make a comeback like smaller brewery production. From personal experience, this is most pronounced in New York, the big apple producing state, and North Carolina, where a lot of New Yorkers end up moving when they decide they're sick of paying state taxes.
