I was torn between laughter and wanting to gouge my eyes/ears out. Not because of the mercury, medical product ads just do that to me.

2020-09-02 10:16:57 +0000 UTCZoe is our hero (because "heroine" is now old-fashioned, and looks/sounds too much like a really dangerous substance/bad idea)! I love her increasingly vivid and very appropriate reactions to a heavy metal (and Mercury, of all things!) as a topical or (Horrors!) internal medicine. Wow. Some day, please do a follow-up on Mercury, as a study of the thoughts that led people to think it was a good medicine. Studying the thoughts could help us avoid similar mistakes (e.g. the decades we insisted that stomach ulcers were stress-induced, and couldn't be related to bacterial infection).
