Now THAT's an obscure Homestar Runner reference!

Grant Siefker

What a great topic in history to discuss. Great choice EH team!

Drewsko

I know but the old flag is still in use by both provinces, it’s just not officially the flag of the north anymore. In this case using that flag is like using the flag of east Germany to refer to Germany in the Sun Yat-sen episodes. It’s using the flag of the wrong half to refer to the whole.

Jay

Maybe I should go on a potato diet. Eat nothing but potatoes and become taller and more handsome 😁

Lady Bug

Pretty sure they got the Polish flag right, since I assume they meant Russian Poland, and that was indeed the flag of Poland under the Russian Empire, and when people talk about 19th century statistics for Poland they usually talk about the part under Russia ("the Kingdom of Poland").

Jonathan Luoto

Pretty sure they also used the modern German flag when Germany wasn't even unified yet. If you go back to the Sun Yat-sen Lies, Robert mentions not using the Imperial German flag because it wasn't immeadiately communicable of representing Germany to the viewer. Just food for thought.

Wow you really fucked up everything in the Netherlands didn't you... First you name Belgium and flanders like they are seperate countries. then you throw Holland in there with what is 100% the wrong flag (It's the modern flag of north Holland, but south holland bears the old flag that is also the one historically used for the duchy it comes from) in addition to also not being a country like very dimwitted American thinks it is and is a small part of the Netherlands.

Jay

Also the Nazis made Fanta; but Fanta's not really good to being with...

Thomas Alfred Weaver

if you're talking about the government, then yes. but don't look at the country as a whole like that. oh yes, my country rose up against English tyranny; but England also gave us Beatles, Elton John, Monty Python, and The Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy.

Thomas Alfred Weaver

Spotted?

Paul Lenoue

But am I wrong, though?

KHMakerD

OI!

Martin Verran

Yum. Potatoes.

Samantha Webb

Alternate History Idea: what if the Potato Blight had instead happened in North America during the "Year Without a Summer," starting in Northern Canada and Spreading all the way down to the Mexican Border?

Martin Verran

Greed. It always comes down to greed.

Jacob Ashton

Liked the NYC reference. Rent is too damn high.

Matthew Russell

England was a bag of dicks.

KHMakerD

Oh, so THAT'S why Ireland was so reliant on potatoes! Now I know! :D
