Comments

I say we do an episode on John Paul jones

Mike Smith

That's really interesting! Thank you!

Just the Worst

Yes, the definition of a "respectful" or "noble" death in Mongolian culture at that time was one that excluded blood, so that was the intent behind the back-breaking.

Extra History

Thank you, that makes sense now. Also, OH MY GOD, OW! When I was trying to find it, I saw something about how it was meant to avoiding spilling blood. Is that true?

Just the Worst

Here is a scene from the BBC documentary about Genghis Khan that demonstrates the "back breaking thing" (warning: not bloody, but it is violent): https://youtu.be/XAFnxV2GYRU?t=33m46s

That is certainly true, we've also had some organizational shifts lately (management of the Patreon has been placed in my hands in addition to the other social media platforms we run). Moving forward though you'll actually be seeing more of our EH writers responding to patrons' questions and comments! --Belinda (Community Manager)

Extra History

It's partly a matter of perspective. I'm sure there are ways to tell his life story that would make it seem quite boring. I'm really glad that Jac, our writer for this series, decided to share the story of Temujin's mother Hoelun in the first episode, it really set the narrative focus on interpersonal drama for the rest of the series --Belinda

Did you spot my Sheep Joke from the last Episode? I'm guessing DomiNations are keeping you busy as you haven't been Commenting as much as you normally do.

Martin Verran

Sorry, this is just morbid curiosity, but that thing you showed at the end, about Jamukha's execution, how did that back breaking thing work?

Just the Worst

Just a normal 6-week one-parter!

Extra History

cool

Hayden Tuff

Will this be a Two-Parter like Justinian and Bismarck or a One-Parter?

Martin Verran

Neat, it's funny how Ghengis Khan came to be is probably more interesting than what he did as a conqueror.
