After President Kennedy's television address, tensions are rising. Fidel Castro is getting annoyed at the US and Soviet Union alike, and everyone else has their own ideas on what retaliation looks like.
Thanks, everyone. I didnt kknow about many of these details, and history makes more sense, with them added. :)

Good point. Another discussion from this might involve an Extra History episode about the social experiment, in which an English noble ran a contest at a fair, trying to get people to guess the weight of his prize bull. He hoped to show they were all too ignorant, and thus should never be allowed to vote . Instead, he started research into the discovered wisdom of crowds.
The connection with democracies and the Soviet Union is that democracies enlist the decision-making ability of a far larger group, potentially, maybe actually, leading to better decisions. Discuss. :)

I'd like to point out something that wasn't quite clear from that episode: Kennedy made live statement to american public on TV. Khruschev made private statement to Central Committee; soviet public was kept in the dark. It's a little detail, but it tells you who they were accountable to.
Treating soviet people like they deserve to know nothing was a time-honored tradition in USSR that persisted through April, 1986 and August, 1991.

I'll be damned. Had to double check that, but you appear to be correct.

Interestingly, this period of tension in the Cuban Missile Crisis when the public knew about it, is what inspired the writing of the Christmas song "Do You Hear What I Hear"

Fascinating how both Kennedy and Kruschev have been desperate to avoid war these past couple episodes and yet both the USA and the USSR keep moving closer to war anyway.

Hey guys, love the video so glad I started sponsoring you all. Extra Credits has been a great series for as long as I've watched it and I really wished I started sponsoring earlier. I promised myself I'd give you the money you deserve one day and eventually figured I'd just start giving what I can now. Keep up the great work. (Seriously you guys are deadly, keep up the good work)

Can I ask you guys why you'll violate the 100 years for proper context rule for sponsored content? I don't mind I've just always found it curious.
