You guys better get ready because do I have litany of suggestions for the series. All manner of things we kind of know are a thing but not in great detail; like the Muslim conquest of Spain, the Iroquois Confederacy, The Hammer of Martel, the Shahs of Iran, a breakdown of the almost monumental list of Indian monarchs and kings with an episode about Harsavardhana and of course the Mauryan dynasty. I am so excited to play a part in this awesome enterprise!

Ryan Wojciechowski

I would like to suggest the Castellemarrese War (might have misspelled that), it was a gang war in the 1920s USA that created the modern Mafia. It involved Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Segal. Meyer Lansky and Frank Castello. These 4 thugs would become the power holders of the most powerful criminal organization in history and it was all played out by playing old school mafia bosses against one another.

Only recently joined the patreon, I fear (why I've waited so long is a mystery to myself), but I'd really like to see a follow up on the Seminal Tragedy in the form of a Brave Little Belgium series. Belgium was a new and tiny state when the War started, with an outdated military, an obligation of neutrality and no hope in hell to defeat an imminent German invasion. And yet, for the first four months of the war, Belgium held the German army at bay, in what can only be described as tantamount to comedy. Episode 1: Belgium before the war & Albert I, king of Belgians Episode 2: the fall of Fortress Liege Episode 3: Fortress Antwerp & the sacking of Leuven Episode 4: retreat to the Yser & Flanders fields What'd you guys think?

Hello! I was too late myself, but I'd love to see a video detailing the life of another Arthur, the Duke of Wellington. You could consider exploring his childhood, involvement in India, the Peninsular Wars, his victory over Bonaparte in Waterloo, and his term as the widely unpopular "Iron Duke" Prime Minister in Office. It would also function as a worthy Plutarchian contrast to Bismarck; a man who was utterly suited to greatness on the battlefield, but was less inclined to the complex, intricate art of politics.

Michal Ong

Darn, I was too late to post a suggestion. However, I will post one in the comments to see if other people support the idea the next time this topic comes up. I think that Extra Credits should do an Extra Credits history covering President Chester A. Arthur. He is a little unknown President who will be very interesting to people both within and outside the US.

Matthew

Nice...and oh well :-)

Laura Galm

Just so you know, it did make it into the raffle, but it didn't win. Sorry Laura!

Extra History

It's both that we're aiming to have them come out during black history month and that black issues are deservedly at the forefront of American political dicussion (most but not all of our team lives in the US).

Extra History

The tags I can do, the publishing a suggestions list I can't. I've been asked this before, and after consideration, I felt that I was not comfortable sharing suggestions even if it's anonymized. I am SUPER happy for people to share their own suggestions here in the comments; I encourage that!

Extra History

May I ask, why a Black history theme is wanted by the EH Team? I'm just curious, it doesn't have to do with the ruckus between Trump and the NBA and NFL does it?

Xenin

And it would be nice if the voting posts were tagged so it would be easy to find the old votes.

Sara Samaletdin

I'd LOVE to see this one!

Joël Quenneville

Yay, another Xenophon fan! I've been suggesting the march of the 10,000 every few polls for a while but haven't had any luck. Maybe that's about to change now :D

Joël Quenneville

I would like the process to be a bit more transparent. Could you please publish the list of suggestions made and the number of times each one was proposed in current run (anonymized, of course - no names or emails)? Doesn't have to be a fancy post or video - a link to the read-only google doc would be enough.

Pavel Yakushevich

I hope mine made it in time. I did History of Radio.

Laura Galm

I suggested The Hanseatic league. We need a lesson in Medieval Economics.

Richard Fejdasz

I suggested the March of the 10,000 for my first suggestion as a patron. A great story to frame a discussion of both Greek and Persian civilisation in the build-up to Alexander's conquest.

StatesEnd

First time on Patreon! Would love to see Empress Wu Zetian covered.

Angie Yao

I suggested the foundation of the Han Dynasty and the introduction of Buddhism to China.

Kira Stegner

Threw in the Meiji Restoration for this one!

Daniel Hood

Went with Louis XIV. When France threatened to upend the balance of power (before the Revolution).

mcmaha1

I went with the Haitian Revolution for this one. :)

Herkles

Margrete I. Medieval Europe's greatest diplomat and statecrafter. She'd provide an interesting contrast to Charles XII, as she succeeded in creating her great empire, and she's also let us learn about elements of medieval Europe that aren't covered too often, like the nature of elective monarchies, and the power of the Hansiatic League.

I think he meant this guy -- <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onesimus_(Boston_slave)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onesimus_(Boston_slave)</a>

Brian Rose

Zara Yaqob and the Ethiopian Empire! One of the oldest countries still standing and claimants to the title of custodians of the Arc of the Covenant deserve a video, as do their greatest emperor.

Christina Maria Jessen

A North African seems a bit odd since it's pretty definitely part of the Mediterranean world and his writings on Africa are about as exoticizing as those of Europeans. Full of cannibals, mistaking chimps for wild mountain men and so on. Which is fascinating on its own, apparently the Arab world and the European one had the same stereotypes about outsiders, rather than be incredibly, fundamentally distinct like so many people loudly insist.

Christina Maria Jessen

I went for Ibn Battuta, to fit the whole African theme.

Moarice

Couple ideas:

When I Wikipedia Onesimus, I get this: <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onesimus" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onesimus</a> I don't think that's the same fellow! You're welcome to suggest the Onesimus you're talking about, but if you would be so kind as to provide some additional comments on the form when you send him in, that would help me get a start on finding sources if he's picked and wins!

Extra History

Nope, I allow some wiggle room for things which are just on the cut-off! Go ahead and suggest the Russian Civil War if that's what you'd like. :)

Extra History

One of the options in my own choice list will feature a woman, not as the titular character but as a very important figure. And the one-off episode after the Khosrau series will be about a woman, although I can't say who just yet. :)

Extra History

Oh, those sound really interesting! Thank you for suggesting them!

Extra History

No objections here!

Extra History

I would love to do something on Poland. We only glossed over it in the Catherine series, but I think I said then, it's something that definitely deserves it's own series.

Extra History

Heck yeah! Considering I'm doing Khosrau right now, I'd be happy to return to Persia.

Extra History

Wars of the Diadochi!

David Jacobs

Onesimus. He introduced inoculation to America. Onesimus was a gift to the Puritan church minister Cotton Mather from his congregation in 1706.

barefoot James

does pre 1920s mean you won't be willing to cover the russian civil war that ended in 1921?

Michael Waisfeld

I hope woman ends as a option. I don't think one needs to win if it's not a best option but I would like an option. But I kind of want to suggest War of the Roses since I would like it to be covered before Game of Thrones ends. This one is coming out around spring right? So War of the Roses has some time left but I don't know how long I can afford to be suggesting stuff. Btw, it's really annoying not able to do paragraph breaks. I am posting before I am done accidentally often since I forget lol.

Sara Samaletdin

Im going for the Goguryeo Sui Wars

Wandrative

Here's one possible way to breakdown the topic, if you want to cover everything: (1) Great Sejm and May Constitution; (2) Russo-Polish War (1792) and Second Partition; (3) Kościuszko Uprising and Final Partition; (4) Jena-Auerstedt and the Duchy of Warsaw; (5) Invasion of Russia and Congress of Poland; (6) Decembrist Revolt and Annexation

Brian Rose

Vermont Republic again Every month until you pick it

t.

I know you guys touched on it in the "Catherine the Great" series, but I've come to think lately talking about the Second and Third Partitions of Poland in greater detail would be really informative. The fact that the May 1791 Constitution and 1794 Rebellion were happening simultaneously with the French Revolution, and the role they played in the Napoleonic Wars doesn't get enough attention, IMHO.

Brian Rose

Let's go for Ancient Civilzations! I'm putting in Cyrus the Great.
