I saw this before the first one and agree this should have been only a prequel. The best part of this movie was Lily James. She brought the energy that we had throughout the first movie. While I don't think scenes with young Harry were going to be more enjoyable, we needed more of Donna with young Bill which showed chemistry and enough with young Same to buy she's in love with him. Instead, we rushed back to scenes that were boring. We needed more Lily!
Now, let's talk casting. We know they can do a great job, right? So why Sky? He's a dud and we never saw him and Sophie as meant to be. I wish we had a storyline without him.
I might be the only one but I get stuck on the lack of continuity and the math. In part 1, Sophie is 20 but Donna, Tanya and Rosie and the men all look to be about 60 and Tanya makes a senior citizen reference on the boat. According to the first movie, Donna goes to Greece and has the baby not long after graduation. Also, in the first movie, she meets the guys in the reverse order and they are a month apart and had very different looks/personas. In this movie, they made more sense in personalities, but it was distracting that they changed it. Then the math comes up again because Fernando appears to be the same age as Sam. And Sophie tells grandma she's been gone for 25 years but is she not 30 in this movie? I sure hope that Donna got 9 years with Sam.
Also, are we to think it took Sky and Sophie 10 years to marry? Why are they together again? I don't get it. Too much of this movie was on a downer and with a prequel, it could have just been fun.
