I hope you are doing great! What happens when an artists mindset meets obsolete computer technology? An explosion of creativity. That's what we all can learn from the Spanish media artist Raquel Meyers. I had the great pleasure to meet her at the Mouvo Festival in Prague 2023, where we both felt a bit lost with our common sceptical perspective on AI, which was so prevailent at the conference.
I was already familiar with her work from the first issue of Holo Magazine (2014) and I was hyped when I learned that she also will be there to give a talk. A main device in the toolbox of Raquel is the Commodore 64 computer. But she does not use it for the sake of Nostalgia - for her the slowness and limitations of the machine aren't drawbacks, but fundamental creative drivers in her work. She creates marvelous worlds from PETSCII characters that tell intimate stories. In this conversation, recorded on April 15th, she shares insights into her life and her work.
