Simón Bolívar - Lies - Extra History

Comments

Thanks for the added details. I thought the episodes were well done, though for me they were depressing, because of what actually happened. I don't think I could stand reading more, though I would like to know what started "Statutory neglect." And yes, it was really confusing to hear you saying "statutory neglect," over and over, while "Salutary neglect" was displaye beside you, throughout. Again, I gues the artist and you didn't communicate quite enough. I'm sure you'll all continue to work on that. :)

That would be tipping my hand, now wouldn't it?

Veteran of the Mushroom Wars

Non-american here too, hence the smiley at the end ;)

Antti Björklund

As a non-american: Nope, still lies.

Nessf

As of today they aren't lies, they're "alternative truths". :P

Antti Björklund

I nominate Someone Else to make it!

Hmmm well in the South Sea Bubble series you talked about Walpole's involvement in the War of Spanish Succession, but that happened a quarter century before the War of Jenkin's Ear. You know what we need? A chart with Walpole connections, with connections made in yarn like in cheesy Hollywood films!

Better than Numb-Butt?

Extra History

Welcome, initiate. Now you have begun to understand the Way of Walpole.

Extra History

! That Carrie, always sneaking in jokes.

Extra History

Didn't we use Jenkins' Ear last time? Or... maybe I researched that as one possible Walpole option, and my brain is confusing me.

Extra History

D'awww. We missed you too!

Extra History

Is this like a Highlander situation where there can only be one James?

Extra History

Your suffering fills me with glee.... but I recognize that's a personal failing. Thank you so much for the content, it's interesting as always. Feel better soon.

Veteran of the Mushroom Wars

I forget how much I love the opening music for this series. Every time you guys go on vacation, I miss you!

Awww sorry to hear you were sick. I wish you had a chance to bring up José Antonio Páez and the Battle of Las Queseras del Medio - when the Venezuelan patriot Llanero cavalry were outnumbered nearly 8-to-1, and were on the retreat - when Paez rallied his troops, had them turn and took the Royalists by surprise, inflicting heavy losses. In particular, there's a small controversy about how he rallied them. Historical accounts declare that he said "¡Vuelvan Caras!" or "About Face!", and it's become a famous slogan in Latin America. However, some historians argue it was more likely he said "¡Vuelvan, Carajo!" which is more or less "Turn around, goddammit!" or "Turn the f*** around!" and historical accounts sanitized it some. I was really sure the Robert Walpole connection was going to involve the War of Jenkins' Ear! It's got such a good (if historically dubious) story behind it, with a welsh mariner Robert Jenkins getting his ear cut off by a Spanish inspector and supposedly putting it in a pickling jar to Parliament. It involved numerous British attacks on New Granada and served as an important lead up to the Seven Years War and, ultimately, the British interest in Spanish American independence. It was also one of the last major political controversies of Walpole's career.

IRON ASS?!?!?! LOL!!!

Nice Movies with Mikey reference

Leslie Nichols

Wait... That means that Walpole is also responsible for the French Revolution and by extension the world as we know it.
