Pledge Amounts and Immediate Pledges
Added 2016-03-18 10:33:01 +0000 UTCWe've reduced the pledge amounts for the Q&A (now $8), the Topic Suggestion (now $10), and the Sponsorship (now $50) rewards!
We've long wanted to make those rewards more accessible. We'd love it if, for example, someone who is really interested in Suleiman the Magnificent could upgrade their pledge and join the Q&A just for the months that he's the featured topic. And now that the entry bar has been lowered, we hope that's more of a realistic possibility!
Separately, we have also joined a beta program that will go into effect in the next few days. From now on, new patrons will be charged their pledge immediately on signing up. (Existing patrons are still set to renew on the first of the month, so that shouldn't change unless you decide to alter your pledge.) Our hope is that this reduces the number of folks who accidentally enter their payment information wrong and don't find out till the end of the month!

Okay, so make suggestions and worse comes to worse it might morph into a related topic. Honestly gender is still confusing topic.

2016-03-19 04:15:15 +0000 UTCHmm, I'm not sure. Usually when we get a topic (usually a person) that doesn't fill a whole series, our approach is to look at what broader movement that person was part of and tell their story as part of looking at the larger tale. So for example, if Mary Seacole had won a raffle instead of being picked for a one-off, it probably would have become a series on the Crimean War with a special look at Mary Seacole worked into the narrative. With Lili Elbe, I'm not sure what larger context to put her in. Perhaps 19th century psychoanalytic movement and how Lili Elbe could be seen as a counterpoint to the nascent understanding of gender identity? I'm not sure, but it'd be an interesting conversation to work out how to have a go at that one.

2016-03-19 03:20:59 +0000 UTCI know the first topic I want to suggest, but I am not sure there is enough information for a whole series. Lili Elbe. Maybe if you did an extra lies episode to cover the difference between her life, and the book the Danish Girl.

2016-03-18 23:54:19 +0000 UTCThat's basically what we're hoping for! Of course, your pledge is your own business and we never want to pressure you into feeling like you have to pledge X amount or at all, but if you want to upgrade temporarily for certain topics, then revert afterwards, then I hope the price change makes it easier for you to do so.

2016-03-18 23:54:12 +0000 UTCI can maybe do it for certain topics, but definitely not back to back.
