Extra Poll: The Ottoman Empire
Added 2015-10-20 18:25:38 +0000 UTCLast month, the Ottoman Empire won the poll and joined our list of topics to be covered on Extra History. But there's a lot of possibilities within the Ottoman Empire's long history! We've narrowed it down to three options, and then we decided - let's reach out to our patrons and let them decide which one they want to see the most!

2015-10-22 03:23:05 +0000 UTCI would hope that people would vote as I did and choose the one they were least knowledgeable about. But, if you are unfamiliar with either one. The fall of Constantinople would probably be the best to start with.

2015-10-22 03:09:51 +0000 UTCAtaturk is fascinating. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of these! Hence why we couldn't decide. ;)

2015-10-21 22:41:29 +0000 UTCIt would in fact come right after the Justinian series, so there is that. The interlocking series are nice! But also, whether or not we cover the Fall of Constantinople this time, we can always cover it with another series if it doesn't win the mini-poll today!

2015-10-21 22:40:54 +0000 UTCIt's actually made a comeback since you posted this! I think this is the first time I've seen active campaigning in an Extra History poll.

2015-10-21 22:40:00 +0000 UTCSuleiman *was* the Ottoman Golden Age! Not that I disagree with your choices, but the man established a new set of laws, built schools, and nurtured the arts. I just gotta give him some more credit than that!

2015-10-21 22:39:36 +0000 UTCWhile I appreciate that sentiment RMS Oceanic, I always try to vote for the topic I'm least familiar with. Gotta go Gallipoli/Ataturk this round.

2015-10-21 00:45:26 +0000 UTCDefinitely throwing my weight behind the Fall of Constantinople. It's how the Ottomans put a capstone on their "arrival" on the world stage, and can set the scene for Suleiman's triumph. Also I like the idea of planting "seed" stories that can easily lead to more stories: The Punic Wars can set up the fall of the Republic, the start of WW1 is self explanatory, the Sengoku Jidai has already brought us Admiral Yi as proof of this concept, Justinian represents the Byzantine Age, the First Crusade is also self explanatory. Starting with Constantinople's fall is another such seed, and probably a firmer one than Suleiman. I'd save Gallipoli/Ataturk as the final Ottoman-centric series.

2015-10-20 20:36:46 +0000 UTCAs a History Buff and a Turkishman everyone should choose Fall of Constantinople. I mean, all three of them are great and I wish we could have all three of them and more of Ottoman history, but I tell you Fall of Constantinople will be amazing

2015-10-20 19:40:54 +0000 UTCI want to start with a Beginning/End, so the Fall of Constantinople & Gallipoli and Ataturk get my vote. Also Suleiman doesn't seem like he did much of anything but ride the wave of the Ottoman Golden Age.
