Extra Play: New Gaming Channel

Ouch. It's true that the channel organization haunts my dreams, but the Great Channel Reorganization I've been threatening since summer still hasn't come to pass. In the meantime, EH is on the front page - youtube.com/extracredits - right below the newest uploads (best place to find new episodes) and the latest season of EC. I do agree that it needs better organization and highlighting, but until I get my pruning shears out, that's the best way to get at it. YouTube only lets me organize the front page, not the playlist subsection, so that place is basically where my dreams go to die.

2015-10-21 23:04:30 +0000 UTCWhile I 100% agree with the second reason, the Extra History always felt like they didn't belong on the EC channel. In addition to that the bigger problem that also kinda goes against the second reason as well is that the EC channel is an unorganized mess. I takes too many clicks to get to any episode of EH, especially the older ones. If you go to playlists you can't even see the EH playlist right away, instead you get to see design club which isn't even going anymore and the fable legends series which only has 2 episodes. In addition to that on the home page EH episodes aren't even featured in the what to watch next section ever (at least in my experience. An example I would like to give is pbsideachannel which broke their episodes into 2: idea episode and comment episode. Because Mike thought that the comments sections being at the second half of the episode made them feel secondary, optional, not as important as the rest of the episode. I feel like EH stands in the same position as those comment sections, except replace the word "episode" with "channel". 2015-10-21 22:25:01 +0000 UTCWe talked about it when launching the show, but there were two reasons we kept EH on the main channel. The first is that it fits with the generally educational theme of the channel, and has the same kind of animated style. If we were to expand to doing more shows in our wishlist (Extra Mythology, Extra Economics, etc.) they would also fit within that definition of the channel. The second reason we kept them together was because we know there's a huge audience that loves game content and actively seeks it out over the internet, but many of those folks had such a disappointing experience with their history education that they've pretty much sworn off it. If having that history content pop up in their feed from a channel they followed for its gaming content convinces even one of them to give history a second shot, then we've done a good thing.

Having all episodes of all EH series be in one single playlist on the EC channel, which by any other means has nothing to do with history, is sooo weird and hard to navigate. Especially now that you are on the 7th "season".

2015-10-19 23:10:48 +0000 UTCThis is awesome, and I actually just finished watching a couple of episodes over there. Not sure if you can Do anything about this, but for some reason the re-uploaded side-quest videos in that channel are all WAY out of order. The actual playlist is fine, but if you look in the video tab it goes, like, episode 3, 6, 11, 2, etc.
