Just received it. Thanks for letting me know.

Lordchaos2371

Pssst. Early access for this week is about to go up right now! Keep an eye on your inbox for it.

Extra History

Will be interesting to see how Robert Walpole gets himself into this one :D

William Warren

I (Soraya) haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but several members of our team have and they all loved it!

Extra History

That's odd. Early access went up September 25 around 2am, if I remember correctly. I would try checking your spam folders for anything sent around that time, to see if perhaps Patreon is getting spam-blocked on your account.

Extra History

To be fair, they did show the scene of a bloody battle in the cold opening. They did make a slight leap, but if you take it with the year of the battle they were showing then it actually works well. In 26 years, there's gonna be a pretty major fight and 26 years before that happens, Yi fails his military exam. I will say it was a bit clumsy, but nothing ever works right the first time. They'll figure it out.

Sean Sarff

Little bit of a downer that we know exactly how this war turns out for Korea. But I'm still interested in seeing your guy's take on his thought patterns and also the why he did what he does in battles (something I've grown to really appreciate is that you show the overall picture along with the immediate battles). I also want to see how Yi takes his coming successes and if he throws them back at his old superiors. Also, question to be answered here, or in the lies episode, what is the criteria of the Korean military exam? I've never heard about societies during this time having military exams.

Sean Sarff

Very well done as always, I can't wait for more. However I do have a question. I am one of your $3 dollar tiered backers but i never received an email for the 1 day early access. I'm not mad or anything like that, I'm just wondering what happened?

Lordchaos2371

saw this watched The Admiral: Roaring Currents more or less about him. I am so ready for whats to come. More than any other extra history episode to date!

Teollinc

Yaaay! Me too! -Soraya

Extra History

Yi gives us a lot of good material to work with. Staunch character, amazing military success, you name it!

Extra History

Easily one of the best episodes yet!!!

Harrison Brussel

Love that cold open.

Tommy Laukkanen

I agree - The concept works; it's adapting a literary trope to the telling of history, which is extremely valid, but for the 26 years earlier to have the weight it deserves, we need to start in media-res properly, not just with a flash forward image prior to the opening credits

Stephen

Haha, yeah, we're trying some new things! Not every episode will open this way, but sometimes you gotta test your limits to see what works and what doesn't. Otherwise the show would grow stale!

Extra History

I think all of these words apply... but just wait until we get to his later career! Then we're really gonna see some unyielding and stubborn integrity. ;)

Extra History

Well that was my intention :P Awesome highness :)

Martin Ockovsky

I hadn't thought of that, but yeah, Yi is definitely a big change from the stars of the First Crusade series. For Yi, we have a bunch of different references - old paintings, statues, etc. - that we've put together to create his image. Here's two examples: <a href="http://www.koreanhero.net/en/AboutYiSunsin.htm" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.koreanhero.net/en/AboutYiSunsin.htm</a>

Extra History

Yeah, it's weird seeing the Imjin War from the other side and our former "hero" Toyotomi become an enemy in this series, isn't it? But also great getting this perspective!

Extra History

Yi Sun-sin is the national hero of Korea, and his story is really amazing. We're doing our best to do it justice!

Extra History

Me too! And even if I got mad, I doubt I would have had the guts to stand up in front of an open court (of people who had approved my *torture*) and still call out Yi Il. You gotta figure that was a pretty big risk, considering. -Soraya

Extra History

Yeah, it's really impressive how much he went through (and came back from). How you find the resilience to bounce back, after getting tortured and demoted *several times*... it certainly speaks to the strength of Yi's character.

Extra History

Thanks for the feedback! We're playing around with our video format to see what more we can do with it. Gonna be kinks here and there, though!

Extra History

You make that sound like a royal title. ;) Instead of "your highness" it's "your awesomeness!"

Extra History

Yeah, I hadn't heard of Admiral Yi before we started this series either, but his story is so impressive! -Soraya

Extra History

Or "Stubborn"

Bjørnar Røsnes Ersdal

Oh yes :D

Juuso Hakala

I believe in addition to this being cause he is awesome it is because of his religion. I hope that is talked about a bit. My assumption from what I know is that failing in his duty would be something to close to losing salvation.

Im so thrilled to be able to donate, cause you find these people I /really/ want to know about. if I was in school i would of ate up stories about this guy.

Thank you, your awesomness

Martin Ockovsky

When the episode starts and it talks about 1572 being 26 years earlier it is a little awkward and unnecessary as we had no framing to state that the story is focused on the later time. It would have been better to simply start by telling the story of the examination in 1572. Otherwise great episode.

Mark Robertson

The new opening grabbed me so completely. I didn't mind the intro coming later, but I'm with Tom that was pretty comical switching from utter destruction to woohoo bouncy castle! :)

David Harkness

You really have to give it to Yi. The guy is basically the scapegoat for all of his superiors so that they can get away with their own ignorance and he stays. Most of us wouldn't take a fraction of what YI went through in our regular jobs before we'd just look for something else to do. I think I'm really gonna like this series.

Sean Sarff

I would not have had the strength of character to put up with all this corruption. I'd likely have led a revolt after the first or second conspiracy against me. I've no tolerance for corrupt politicians, especially when I'm the target of their ill games.

Michael Jebbett

Simply Awesome! Great rolemodels and stories motivate people to virtuous action, integrity, and perseverance. Thank you for sharing as always :)

YL

To paraphrase my grandfather, "That Yi is one ornery, stubborn sonovabitch." It's gonna be pretty sweet seeing Yi whip the Japanse....And I just realized, this is the first time we're getting a 'sequel' Extra History :D

The Cayute

Yeesh! Finally! The tale of the immortal admiral can begin. I must say it's a pretty nice switch from the greedy and corrupt Crusaders to the honorable soldier who fulfilled his duty and maintained his integrity to the very end. A question though: What source do you refer to when you draw the characters?

Hung Nguyen

I know what you mean but actually once I got over the surprise, I kinda like it! Its like an episode of your favourite drama going straight into the story before rolling the familiar starting credits... Mind you, the macabre scene of slaughter kinda had a weird juxtaposition with the bouncy jaunty theme tune which was kinda funny! <deaaaathhh> <mutilaaaaaation> <horrrrrror> <dum diddle="" dum="" dum="" dummm...="">

Tom Murphy

If I had to pick a word to define Yi's early career, it would be unyielding.

maxil19

If I had to pick a word to define Yi's early career, it would be integrity.

RMS Oceanic

I know it comes a bit later but... eh... feels -off-

Dameol

It feels REALLY weird to not have the Extra History Intro at the beginning of the video
