What I'd note about US democracy is that it's a wonderful prototype but the voting system for your presidential election is painful in many respects. It's even more in need of a patch than UK general election voting, and that's about 50 years out of date, at least. If you're not going to remove the Electoral College, at least make the delegates to it elected proportionally rather than under a Winner Takes All system, and as for those US citizens in US oversees territories not getting to vote (while US citizens living in non-US territories, or who are in space at the time, can...), is clearly broken (And was patched for Washington DC within the past 50 years, as I recall). Your methodology of resolving ties and lack of majorities within the electoral college is particularly '...Oh dear...' incidentally.
