Extra Credits EDU

We recently launched Extra Credits EDU, a new group that curates educational games on Steam! Figuring some of you might be interested in that, we decided to share it here. Check out the video for more information, or you can visit the group directly here: Link: http://bit.ly/ExtraEDU

Email tobias[at]extra-credits[dot]net! We'd absolutely love to hear about them and we're going to be adding another wave of games to the list very soon.

Extra History

For the time being, because our "home" is the Steam group, I'm afraid it does exclude us from looking at tabletop games. But we'd like to see this project grow beyond that so we'll be able to talk about more games some day. And we are definitely open to including games that teach 21st century skills like teamwork and beyond! Email those to tobias[at]extra-credits[dot]net, we'd love to hear about them. :)

If we want to submit a game that we use to teach how do we do that?

Does it being a Steam group exclude you guys looking at tabletop games with educational value and potential classroom usage? Also, are you just looking for 'games that could be used for traditional educational usage' - e.g. can be used to teach geography, history, english, maths, art, etc - or are you including stuff that can be used to help teach transferable skills such as teamwork, research, public speaking, and the like?

To quote Aleks, one of the teachers who's helped us put this list together: "This resource is primarily intended for teachers who want to try using games in their classes, not games that necessarily are ideal for self-directed learning. AC: Unity in and of itself can have some educational value, but the potency of these games is realized when placed in a solid educational framework." So basically we have tried to pick games that will aid a teacher during their lessons, but no game replaces a teacher. One of the teachers we're working with is already using AC:Unity to teach his students about gothic architecture in French cathdrals.

Well, the game's quality as a game isn't too important. What's important is its quality as a classroom tool, in this case.

It's still a solid complete game.
