It shows that he might act like a rebellious punk, but that's only a defense mechanism because he had a tough upbringing. I can tell you this since this is from the manga and not in the anime, but Yusuke's father was abusive to him and his mother, so he comes from a broken home, so he had to get tough fighting in the streets from an early age.
