You need to treat demons as if they are an entirely different species, down to their brains, despite their humanoid appearance. Kind of like how Frieren and elves in general lacks romantic or sexual instincts. They simply aren't wired to feel empathy like humans do. Because they're programmed by nature to see humans as prey. And if they were to feel sympathy, then this conflict between demons and humans would've ended long before the age of Flamme. That also means, that you can't view demons as evil despite their actions. They just simply are doing what's in their nature. To feed. Fun little fact: Himmel's name in German means "Sky" or "Heaven". Notice how whenever they talk about him, or to him from who's long gone or even mention heaven. The camera, scenery or even Frieren herself focuses on the sky.
