When it comes to materials, I use the soft brush in a multitude of ways differed by the size of said brush, and the pressure at which I apply the lines. For tone work, I give myself the option of only 6 grey tones per page. This forces me to play smart and stay simple so I don't go overboard with tones, even if not everything is toned to how it would be in real life. Example would be the metal fence, in which it should be toned light gray but that would blend in too much with background tones, thus I left it white.
