Fun video. I never read the Ultimate book, but I did I get up every Saturday morning as a kid in 1983 to watch this show while eating a bowl of very sugary cereal. Anyway, the story I always heard about the origin of Firestar was that Marvel pitched the cartoon for Johnny Storm (promoting characters from their top 3 performing books at the time), but they hit a licensing conflict. So, they decided to make a new female character instead. (FWIW, that's also what's in Wikipedia.) As for Kitty and gravity, she can "walk on air." The idea is that she's weightless when she's phased, but can e.g. unphase just the soles of her feet to push off of the air below her . She did this often in the 80s X-Men comics (usually with a thought bubble where she explained what she was doing, because that's how they rolled back then).
