UDUG Ep 23 | Gaming in the Clinton Years Watch Party

Sup Skele-Fam!

Hey it’s U you’re UDUG! We went on a JOURNEY in this month’s episode. The hours just melted away because every video from George Wood and co is a gift and we just couldn’t stop.

If you’re not familiar with “Game in the Clinton Years”, they are the review segments from the public access tv video game show Flights of Fantasy. They are infamous for poor production value, and staggeringly ill-informed and generally awful assessments of then-current video games, approximately 1992 to 2000. The game review segments were lifted and uploaded to YouTube in the early days of the site, rebranded as “Gaming in the Clinton Years”. They became quite popular lolcow / cringe content in early Internet.

We steamed on the discord for 5 hours, there were some technical tissues that cut the total run time of the upload here but that was only a fraction of the nearly 400 archived episodes! We… could do this again! There were also some weird technical issues with my mic, hopefully you won’t notice too much. I tried to fix what I could but my mic settings were being weird all day that day.

Here is the UDUG playlist if you want to watch old episode - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-ak-oNNRK_s9D3LSF8KnDc8-r1-LMYcm

Enjoy and see you next month! Thanks as always for the support!

I think his reading was just so strange. Like this sinister, count dracula-type voice that just doesn’t fit. And the more I think about it, if that’s the joke, it’s a very bad one! Without much set-up or any previous mention of the scratch-and-sniff marketing , it’s just this random statement that’s at best vaguely silly because belches are smelly! Gah!! This frealin’ show man...

Regarding the statement in the Earthbound review, “Beware of Master Belch, you may have smelled him before.” I would assume this is a reference to a Nintendo Power print ad for Earthbound which included Scratch and Sniff character art, while declaring “This Game Stinks”, playing up the ‘gross-out’ culture of 90s media aimed at young boys.
