State of the Skeleton 8/29 - 9/2: Pre-post-production

***next podcast is on Sept 5th at 4pm PT!***

Hi everyone!

Grace here. Thank you so much for your well wishes over the past couple of weeks. I’m still working with my doctors (they actually had to reschedule my appointment >:( ), and am trying to get work done as I can. But in the meantime, let’s go over what’s been going on this week!

Monday 8/29

Today we uploaded a compilation video of some of Derek’s past videos. When we were up in Alaska, we were able to shoot a brief intro in the old apartment Derek lived in during the HVGN years! A lot of people asked about the intro. No we did not break into the building but we do still know the people who own the building so we just asked to come over. They actually weren’t there when we shot it!

However, that intro footage was shot on Derek’s spiffy new iPhone and unbenounced to me, footage shot on new iPhones dosen’t play nice with non-Apple programs apparently. So in addition to making sure the entire 4+ hours of HVGN videos were all aligned and ready to go, color correcting the intro was a nightmare! So this unfortunately took most of Derek’s Sunday and Monday. On the plus side he knows a little more now about advanced video options in Adobe Premiere. But it’s up, and it’s out, and all your comments have been extremely nice, thank you!

Tuesday 8/30

Today I went over the script for Ouya with Cass. It’s going along great! Now that a first draft is done, the next step is refining the script. The difficulty is going to be keeping only the most relevant bits because the OUYA was a bit of a car crash that wouldn’t stop crashing. The draft is huge! Cass is going to go over the draft again and cut it down, so hopefully we’ll be closer to production in a few days. Derek on the other hand, was pretty burnt out from having to pull overtime duties getting the HVGN video ready, so he just got Playstation Doom footage.

Wednesday 8/31

Today got cut short because Launchpad was showing signs of balance issues, walking sideways and having trouble sitting normally. We sent a video to our vet and they got us in right away to see him. He seems fine now, so nothing immediately wrong, but we’re going to be monitoring him and potentially setting him up with a neurologist soon to see if anything more serious is going on. In the meantime he is on a strict diet of rest and wet food, which he is thrilled about!

Derek is still hard at work on his Playstation Doom video, but took a break from writing to review the first rough edit of the Crash Racing Mobile video. It’s coming along but is still in an early state. Current timeline is to have it posted before Sept 15th.

Thursday 9/1

Turns out we will need a little bit more N-Gage 2.0 footage for the Crash video, but I needed to download some files to get it to happen. 8 hours later and I am STILL waiting for a 7 gig download from Mega NZ. Hopefully after this I won’t have to download any N-gage related files ever again. While I was waiting on that, I returned to my script about Microsoft Game Room. Banged out the outline, and I am hoping to get half of the rough draft done tomorrow.

Derek gave me an update on the Doom video, he was really excited about it when I asked if he’d researched any developer interviews. He hadn’t. All this time and energy? This is why collaboration is important! Turns out Playstation Doom and Doom 64 have a lot more in common development-wise, and with the recently released Doom 64 remaster, there’s a couple really good interviews.

Friday 9/2

It’s PAX West Weekend! While neither Derek or I are planning on attending, we’re hoping to spend the weekend with people traveling to Seattle for the convention. Other than that, it’s a writing and cuddling with the dogs day for us both. We have videos out to editors (two actually, not just the Crash Nitro Kart video) and we’re hoping to start shooting another by next week.

Also we have a podcast next monday! 4pm PT be in the discord if you wanna chat along! We’ll see you then!

Comments

The compilation looks cool! Thanks for putting that together :D Watched one or two of the HVGN videos, but never really caught up on them. Seems like this is a good way of doing so :D
