NEW VIDEO Video Game Strategy Guides [SSFF] (Patreon Cut #1)

My entire video game storage has FINALLY been moved out of Alaska! Which means I have all my strategy guides! But instead of just making a video about my strategy guide collection, I also wanted to tell the dumb, wild, and amazing history of video strategy guides. They're a really fun and often under-appreciated piece of video game history so I hope you enjoy this one!

Unfortunately this video had some issues with the edit. It was supposed to be completed and posted to Patreon last week and would've given you all much more exclusivity time. This video is going public on YouTube tomorrow morning. Our original editor had some personal issues and wasn't able to complete the project. These things happen (frankly we're just happy that she's ok). Thankfully we found another editor who was able to quickly turn around a fresh edit. But to make up for this shorted exclusivity time, we'll have an extended cut exclusive for our Patreon supporters in a couple of days.

By the way, this one was voted on by YOU! Not only that, a Half Life ports of Punching Weight is currently being written and another video voted on by YOU, Ambitious GBC ports, has been shot and is currently being edited. Those two are actually on the docket for next March, your second video for February will be coming to Patreon later this week. So look forward to that!

Thanks as always for your support, and we'll see you again later this week!

IMO a Strategy Guide for an early build of a game that went on to have a long & drastic update history is an interesting enough oddity to justify its place in a collection!

There were a couple of Prima Guides which came packaged with promotional music CDs which I do not believe were related to any music featured in the respective game. Lords of EverQuest guide included a single of the song “Home” by Three Days Grace, Yu Yu Hakusho Spirit Detective guide included a limited edition DVD. Prima also produced guide books for each year of E3.

The offical Final Fantasy XV Strategy Guide is completely worthless due to the way that game changed post release.

I’m also happy to hear your editor is ok. It’s ok the video didn’t get out to us at the intended time. Getting things done on time is never worth it when it’s at someone’s expense (which is something the current game industry could use a lesson about). I’m super excited for the videos coming up in march as well!

I can check, but I'm pretty sure they were released along with the PS1 version. The DC and GC ports came a few years later. I also have two Onimusha guides that are both "official" and they're definitely both for the PS2 version.

another detail to consider - one of those re3 guides is specifically for playstation, could there be version differences?
