What sound would you guys have made when seeing your bank account this month? - Karl

Karl

I gotta say, I haven't noticed a huge shift. I've been a pretty big fan of everything that has dropped. that's just me though.

Dungeons and Randomness

Hey guys -- I made a comment similar to this one a few months back concerning the shift in the kind of content you guys have decided to focus on going forward. In it, I asked whether or not you guys would ever produce any content that resembled older content (i.e. longer review-like retrospectives as opposed to punching weight style content). You responded by saying that the shift in more punching weight style videos was due to the greater traffic they give the channel. Since they give greater traffic, it's definitely understandable you have decided to focus on them and I don't fault you guys for going with what will sustain you. However, I feel this move greatly risks alienating long-time fans. I myself have been following Derek since the original 2009 Earthbound review. I've boughten both the HVGN DVDs, boughten all the Starship Amazing Albums, been a patron since day one, backed the failed Blu-ray Kickstarter, and even made a bass cover of a SA song -- Crystal gods to be exact :). I've been a fan since middle school and now I'm graduating college. I owe a lot to Derek for helping me shape my tastes growing up -- not just my taste in games, but also music! (I love Fall of Troy). I digress...the main point I'm making in saying this is that I feel slightly alienated with the new style of content. I still enjoy the content to some extent, but some of it feels like it's being made just for clicks rather than a genuine passion for the subject. In the end, I still wish you guys the world and am happy for your newfound success -- this is just a confessional from a diehard fan that is slightly disappointed with how things have gone content-wise. I guess I'll end with a question: If the subscriber and patron count go way up in the future, would you guys consider branching out and taking more risks on projects? Anyway, I'll shut my mouth for now...thanks for all you guys do! -Anton :)
