New video! Mortal Kombat's Most Ambitious Portable Ports | [Patreon Cut]
Added 2019-08-01 04:58:29 +0000 UTCHi all!
We're wrapping up July with a Punching Weight about our favorite Mortal Kombat Ports. I should note here that we're not talking specifically about the worst ones, there are some pretty raunchy ones on Game Boy incaseyoudidn'tknow, but the most Punching Weight-y ones.
So of course we had to start with Mortal Kombat 11 for the Switch. Have you seen that thing?? Just beautiful. Of course we talk all about it in the video, but it really was the inspiration for this whole rabbit hole.
Anyways, our next video is going to be a return to Past Mortem and will feature a super exclusive killer app from the seventh console generation....
ALSO. Podcast will be recorded and released on August 7th this month!! Set your calendars!

I'm gonna point you to the PS3 back-port of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor for a worse-looking, worse-running release from a big-budget project.

2019-08-01 13:43:48 +0000 UTCAlso if you want to look at great fighting game conversions for punching weight look at the fighting games Takara worked on. KoF https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ClC5MrcAyA World Heroes 2 Jet (My fav) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WczBfvEqZLQ Real Bout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AImg_CoFDqA Look how detailed the sprite work is in those games. and they play so smoothly! And the animations are nice. They included a lot of detail and translated as much as they could to the game boy. And they're FAST! Pretty sure these games inspired the SD look for SNK's fighters on the Pocket Station.

2019-08-01 10:40:59 +0000 UTCI loved the Game Boy ports. I don't know what it was but some Game Boy games made me think the hardware was more capable than the NES. It may have less colors but somehow the games seemed to be in higher fidelity.

2019-08-01 10:22:57 +0000 UTCFantastic video - despite never having played an MK game I still really enjoyed awkward stuff like the sound test mode with 10 sound effects but no music, the Tiger Electronics history and the 3d backgrounds from some of the later ports. I also appreciated the jab at Silent Hill HD Collection but I personally found the clip you used to be a bit jarring and uncomfortable. When you talk about MK 1+2 on Gameboy the clip you use with Dan "Toasty" Forden also comes off as a comment on him which I don't think was intended and is a little questionable when coupled with the wording ("cohunes"). Sorry for being so harsh, I really did like the video a lot!
