Your comment on ASMR audiobooks really sticks with me. When I was studying writing at uni, we touched on second-person writing and how underused and under-appreciated it is. It’s definitely a challenge, but it’s a rewarding one when done right, and I agree that adding the extra layer of it being an audiobook as opposed to print would really add a layer of immersiveness that I feel second-person writing warrants. It doesn’t NEED to be second person, of course. A third-person omniscient narrator would be stunning if done right, but it comes with the challenge of things like choosing a name and identifiers for the Listener character without reducing immersion. It’s definitely a cool concept, and I’ve experimented with second person narrative before but never in something so expansive as an audiobook, just short stories. Makes me think about revisiting it as a medium! Lovely episode from you and Salem! Looking forward to the next for sure!
