[SSFF] Punching Weight Ep 4: FromSoftware Before They Were Dark Souls
Added 2016-04-16 00:57:38 +0000 UTC
Hello supporters! Here's an exclusive first look at our new video! To celebrate the released of Dark Souls 3, here's a brief glimpse of one of gaming's most prolific producers of weird games, FromSoftware!
Games Featured in this Episode:
1. Shadow Tower (PS1)
2. Adventures of Cookie and Cream (PS2)
3. Echo Night Beyond (PS2)
Thank you all so much for the continued support. We're only 4 months into 2016 and it's already looking like this will be the most prolific year of my career, by far! I was never able to stay this committed to the HVGN, your support has helped give me the confidence to make SSFF something special. I've been doing this for almost 9 years and I still feel like I'm just getting started!!! See you all again real soon!!

I actually got to know FromSoft from the Armored Core and Kings Field series before the Souls-Series, though I was never to good at either (not that I am that gud at Souls games :P Doesn't mean I can enjoy them though) and I also played Otogi on the original Xbox, which is a pretty well polished action game. And I like how in pretty much every game made by FromSoft, you can find the Moonlight Blade and in most games references to Seath.

Awesome man! I remember there was an older stream you did with Calvin I believe, where you played that game for like quite awhile. I was intrigued by it.

"I wanted to play more Cookie and Cream, and give Shadow Tower and Echo Night Beyond proper reviews!" Maybe...GIANT-SIZE Punching Weight special? As much as I'm a super fan of FromSoft now, I know very little, let's say "next to nothing," about their past games. So I really enjoyed this! I would love to see more.

3D games don't hold up as well as 2D games, it's just an unfortunate truth. It took dev's so much longer to lock down the 3rd dimension. I'm having a really good time with this new show tackling games I normally wouldn't be able to. This episode was different though, I wanted to play more Cookie and Cream, and give Shadow Tower and Echo Night Beyond proper reviews! I had to keep the script from getting too long!

Oops! Mixed the titles up. King's Field IV WAS released outside Japan. Shadow Tower Abyss was Japanese only.

One more great video! Punching Weight is already my favorite show from SSFF. I'm glad to see that you passion for retro games goes beyond 2d and pixels. Even clunky 3d games can have unique elements. Altough I find their cumbersome nature more hard to endure nowadays.
You just mention those limitations in early 3d games like Shadow Tower, but I know I'd find it super annoying.

Huge fan of Fromsoft! Shadow Tower is really cool, and I want to finish it one day. King's Field 1-3 are OK games, but King's Field 4 looks amazing! I tried it a little bit, and I like it just as much as Shadow Tower Abyss. Only Japanese though, but it would definitely be good material for Punching Weight.
