[SSFF] Cave Noire (カーブノア) (GB) Review by Derek Alexander
Okay, this looks like a game I need to check out, since I am a huge RPG nerd and like more challenging RPG genres like Rogue- and Soulslikes. I mean I don't speak japanese, but I can always but the cart and then emulate a translated rom (if there is such a thing).
Also, the "level up" system of this game reminds me of Games like Card Hunter, Crimson Shroud or even board game rpgs like Hero Quest or Dragon Strike, where your skills and stats are mostly set by what equipment you have, not what level.

I get the sense that the roguelike / roguelite distinction is kinda like the zombie / infected / distinction in film and TV: it really only matters to diehard purists. The reality is that while perhaps not fitting the arbitrary definition of what fits the category, these "outliers" often bring a lot of positive attention to the genre they are said to be emulating. (see: 28 Days Later and Left 4 Dead for zombie media, and FTL and the other great examples in this review for roguelikes).
This was a great review and it's great to see you're hitting your stride, Derek! Looking forward to more!

Yeah, we really need to think of different ways to run the "Thanks You" section! It runs by too fast but there are too many to list on a single frame!
I've heard a lot about Diggin' in the Cart but haven't watched it yet. Now that I'm between videos I can finally find the time.
Thanks for watching!

I got 1 second of fame with my name scrolling on your video! Haha, nice!
Very good review. I really enjoy you going after information about game designers. Today many of them are famous, and we can even know what they are up to on Twitter. But people who worked on absolute classics from the 80' and 90' are kept unknown to gamers.
By the way, I strongly recommend the documentary "Diggin' in the carts" about japanese videogame music. Some composers quit working without even knowing their creations were so beloved. So sad :´(
