Working through Patreon changes.

Alright, so Patreon's blocking me from doing anything until I made a decision, so I had to make a choice.

Context:

For everyone's knowledge, Patreon has to change their billing structure to cater to iOS 's new charge requirements. This most affects Patreon users that use the iOS Patreon app directly.

Here are the results of the poll I ran, checking with patrons on their usage.

Thank you everyone who responded. It helps me get a sense of how the change will affect folks.

The most important detail is the fact that iOS Patreon app use is non-zero. Also notable is that there are a lot of general iOS users that could probably be impacted because I don't know Apple's policies well enough and Patreon said that patrons wouldn't be able to join if I didn't move.

So...

I'm moving to monthly "Subscriptions":

Effective November 2024, new users joining will now pay on the day that they join, and will get charges on that same day each month.

For example, if you're new and you join on November 7th, you'll get charged on November 7th, then December 7th, January 7th, and so on...

I'm sure they do something different to account for the 29th, 30th, and 31st in February, but I totally thought of that too. X3

Current patrons are not affected by this change:

If you joined (or plan to join) before November 1st, you won't receive a charge until November 1st.

You also will NOT receive any additional fees from Apple if you are an iOS user on the Patreon app.

Anyhoo, just keeping everyone in the loop. Thanks everyone for joining, subscribing, or even just browsing for free. I appreciate all of you and still want to make something weird for everyone to enjoy ^^

TL;DR I'm moving to using Monthly Subscriptions, effective November 1st, 2024. This has no impact on current patrons, should have a mild impact on new patrons (what date they are charged), and will impose a fee from Apple to iOS Patreon app users of around 30% extra (and I don't control any part of that)
