Added 2025-10-21 03:43:54 +0000 UTCFigured I’d show what the progress for one of these pages looks like. This one is good because there’s a bit of each problem I have to address when finishing a page.
I start with a blown version of my thumbnail sketch. This page was pretty involved for. The get go so I worked out the poses early on.
From there, I add the gutters and layout the speech bubbles. It’s important to place those early because it’s easier drawing around them than it is placing the, around drawings. I also brought in higher quality version of the sketches.
then I get into the cleaning up phase. Some pages this is easier, others it’s harder. This was a harder page. In the third image, I had to redraw three panels, and get the heads on the first two more on model. I also repositioned some of the panels. I wanna fill the space without it being cluttered.
line work time. I use a brush called wiggle butt that I’ve edited to hell and back. It’s got a nice taper, decent thickness, and it’s got a good slight scatter to give it texture. Like with all my work, I thicken the lines after getting the first pass laid down. The comic has thicker lines than normal to help fill negative space.
The colors are simple. I use a limited palette for this comic, and only expanded it a little for part two. It helps that the beef and Maggie have the same colors, so I can just color pick off each other. Once that’s done, it all comes together and the page is finished!
