The evolution of a logo
Added 2023-03-12 12:26:30 +0000 UTCI've had a bird as my logo for over ten years :O Even I can't believe it saying it now.
Back when I was in school and making my first portfolio, I had an idea to make a little orange bird as my logo because my nickname has always been Birdie and my favorite color is orange. So it just naturally fit :)
Fast forward to today, and my logo is still the same little orange bird! With a few variations around the crest/tufts on the top of its head :)
It's really fun to look back at how much my logo has changed. I tried to make a new one in 2021, but I never used it much as a logo and really it only exists as a stamp. In 2022, I made a new logo for my pottery that was more "pottery" themed. And while I do like it for pottery, it felt weird to have a logo only for pottery when my art and business is a lot more than that.
So the 2018 logo is the one that has lasted through the years and the one you still see on my website and packaging.
However, I felt like it was finally time to give this logo an upgrade. So at midnight last night (as you do), I started to doodle some ideas that captured the same look but was a little simpler:
And then this morning, I made some versions in Illustrator to flesh it out some more:
The ones in the last row are the ones I like the most!
I like the simplicity and bold lines, and I feel like I could use it for both my pottery, website and overall branding. Changing a logo is a big decision though, and this would be the first official new logo for *everything*. So, I'm going to sit on it for a week or so before changing anything publicly.
