Day 10 of recovery

I think the hard part is over, I’ve had three nights of uninterrupted sleep now and while its hard to tell how much better I’m sleeping because there’s still quite a bit of discomfort and swelling, even with all the difficulties of recovery, I’m definitely sleeping better than I was before surgery even with the CPAP machine (which I no longer use)

I don’t think I’ll know HOW much better I feel and am sleeping until maybe a month after I’m healed enough to sleep normally and I pay off my sleep debt but to give you an idea I have been naturally waking up around 6am, no alarms like I used to when I was 17/18 and just getting out of bed to do my morning pages.

How I have missed the sunrise.

I’m still 5 weeks away from belong able to chew anything, and my jaw joint is swollen so I can’t close my mouth fully but so far I’ve managed to eat two “foods” incredibly soft, almost cooked scrambled eggs and instant porridge.

As much as I love mums blended pumpkin soup served via syringe, nothing beats “solids”

I’m also drinking from glasses instead of sauce bottles so that’s a big improvement! (Though I do still end up wearing a lot of it)

Im no longer bed bound, but sitting up and walking around takes a lot out of me so I’m still maybe a week or so away from being able to do anything more than read or play video games and half very small walks.

Had my follow up appointment with the surgeon who seemed amazed at how well I’m recovering and how little swelling I have, which I though was funny because my head is fucking HUGE.

But it does seem smoother than last surgery, which is strange as this is certainly the more intensive one.

I’ve got an appointment with the orthodontist to check if my teeth are properly aligned and to replace my elastic bands with new ones (I have to have them for 6 weeks 😩)

But! It really is all downhill from here, the first week was very tough and painful but from now if it’s anything like the first surgery,I just have to do a lot of waiting and rest to help my body heal.

Then, it’s over.
