On the surface, she’s angry pointing a gun at him, demanding honesty. But the gun is more than anger, and it symbolic way saying, “Don’t play games with me. If you’re serious, prove it.” She’s hurt by the silence, vulnerable in a way she rarely allows herself to be. The word “love” lies at the center of this clash. When Aeshin first said “love” without knowing its meaning, it was innocent. Eugene, who knew exactly what it meant, chose to go along, turning her naive suggestion into something charged. Once she discovers the meaning, she realizes how much weight he gave to a word she had tossed out so lightly, and it makes her question him. Was he toying with her, or was he sincere? By pointing the gun, she’s drawing a line, she’s not here to play. Eugene, meanwhile, deflects with wit and few sligh smirks, but reveals more than he intends. His words, “I wanted to destroy someone. But I ended up destroying myself,” carry double weight. As viewers, we know what Aeshin doesn’t know. His initial decision to pursue her was tied to revenge. Discovering that her fiance belonged to the family who destroyed his parents stirred both resentment and the impulse to get close to her. That’s the “beginning of revenge.” But as his fascination with Aeshin deepened all along, the revenge unraveled into something else, desire, vulnerability, and yes, jealousy. The “end of jealousy” is him acknowledging that what began with bitterness has shifted into love, even if he won’t say the word outright. Aeshin reveals her own side by mentioning she has been “counting” his confessions. For all her pride and denials, she has been paying close attention, quietly holding onto every phrase that hinted at affection. Eugene is amused, but also disarmed he didn’t expect her to value his words so closely. Their dialogues honestly deserve an Oscar 👌
