Patreon Show July 2023 - Chris takes a tiny dog on a tiny walk

Hello patrons!

This month you're joining Chris on a leisurely stroll as he talks to you about such breezy topics as "burnout" and the "games industry's total unpreparedness for Artificial Intelligence".

It's actually quite a chilled out Patreon Show, despite the topics.

Thanks so much for your support :)

I do get notifications! And she's an Italian Greyhound. Very similar to a Whippet in terms of their shape and temperament, but quite a bit smaller.

I wonder if you even get notifications about messages here, but I need to ask you from my son what kind of dog breed you have. Thanks, and keep up the great work! :)

Chris, it's a meadow! A thicket usually implies at least small trees :)

As a grunt software engineer and crappy hobbyist artist, I view AI tools as a suggestion/"blueprint". Something that can give a layperson the tools to show the expert what they're looking for. NOT something that should be used in actual production of something to sell or a replacement of people's jobs. I really wish corporate/laypeople understood that.

This is my first month as a Patreon and I found this update really great! Being taken on a little walk with Chris and their tiny dog while talking about quite some serious topics is both informative and surprisingly relaxing. On this matter, I totally agree on AI being a totally convoluted topic. I study Computer Science so I'm fascinated by AI in general, but the use of generative AI that is being pushed right now it's really dangerous for a number of industries, especially creative ones: I hold that these tools should be used to aid humans and lighten their workload (especially in a time where corporations require inhuman amount of work and productivity from people), not repleace them. And this is not just old men screaming at clouds: generative AI was not meant for that. Also, I cannot stand people saying that humans copy each other in the same way, 'cause it completely undermines everything that art is: AI will never be able to create art that can "pierce the fourth wall" and really connect with a human being for the simple reason that a piece of art needs all of its parts to deliver its meaning, you cannot simply pick them apart, mix them with others from other pieces and extrapolate patterns!
