I managed only 2 shootings during this first year in the Ex Manicomio di Monbello, Elfa and Maria, unfortunately the shooting with Barbora was rerouted...
Between Elfa and Maria, the interpretation of this derelict place couldn't be more different.
Elfa was composed and serious, possibly also afraid ab out people coming in from the door in the background; Maria was playful and enthusiast, with the careless attitude I love about her.
And this is my luck, because every model brings on the table something special, a unique approach to nudity and to the craft of modeling.
There is no right or wrong way to pose, regardless of my personal preferences, every model works in a unique way to display her unique beauty.
I can complain, but my role is mainly to record what the models are doing, maybe give some instructions and hope they will be followed, but a lot of what I do is down to what the models allow me to do, it is up to them what is happening in front of the camera.
This is a transfiguration of the models (and of how they wish to appear), and of my photography (and what I planned to do).
Even the locations are transfigured by the alchemy of photography.
A couple of weekend back I was inspecting new locations with a friend of mine, and he was disappointed by the place, because it looked too miserable in his mind to place some nude models into it, but I reassured him about the miracles photography can do.
I proved this to him when I showed him the photos I took on the day, and he admitted it looked much better in photo than in person.
It is this the miracle of photography, where the will of the model, the project of the photographer and the nature of the location count only marginally, but it is the blending of all elements that creates the alchemy and gives birth to iconic images.
One more photo of Elfa later today on my regular social media feed.
