February 2021, still with the Panasonic Lumix S1, which was working very well!
Soon after the Leica SL2-S arrived, and it was a disappointment to use for 2 huge issues, and a pleasure at the same time for the quality construction and the even better electronic viewfinder.
The 2 issues of the Leica were:
- ISO that have to be set in full stops (so from 800 I have to jump to 1,600 with no 1/3 increments and fine tuning).
- Image stabilization could be selected only for lenses produced by Leica, from the R or M range of focal lengths, so if you wanted to use, say, a 58mm, you either had to turn off stabilization or change back to the Lumix S1.
Wanting to use the Leica SL2-S every time I could, and many lenses with focal lengths not present in the Leica list, the stabilization on the Leica camera was always turned off.
Lately, I was using both the SL2-S and the Lumix S1, stabilized with 1 compatible lenses for the duration of the shooting, so I didn't have to change optics in the field and get dirt on the sensors.
But now that the new Leica SL3-S is out, I might have made peace with the SL2-S, because I finally installed the latest firmware update, and at least the lens issue has been fixed!
Now I can finally use any of my lenses on the SL2-S, and also the Voigtländer Nokton 58mm f1.4 SL II, and it is like having a new camera with new features.
Small things, but they make me happy.
