The worst fear of Elfa on that day, were humans.
Whenever she heard a voice coming toward us, she jumped and run for her jacket, that was long enough to cover every sensitive part of the body.
I have no idea why she would want to cover such beauty, if I was as beautiful as her, I would be walking around constantly n4ked in the Summer.
But I could see a genuine terror every time she heard voices, and in this case it gave me the opportunity to shoot this nice candid photo of the panic moment.
This happened many times during the day, but the weirdest was in the first pavilion.
Most of these buildings are made to resemble cloisters, with a square open air garden in the center, a corridor running all around, leading to an outer circle of rooms.
The corridor used to have windows toward the garden, so you could see what was happening in all the corridors, but now the thick vegetation of the central garden is hiding everything and also letting in very little sunlight.
As soon as Elfa heard the voices approaching, she went for the jacket and, as soon as she was covered, we saw a young boy, around the age of 16, with thick glasses.
This boy turned the corner of the corridor, touching the wall and the windows, as if he was blind, or just needing some support to stand up.
As soon as he passed us, from around the same corner, we saw 2 doctors appear, a man and a woman, with appropriate medical sandals, white coats, and even black silicone medical gloves.
They appeared to be taking the patient to have a walk, we nodded a salute and said: "Buongiorno", all 3 turned the other corner and disappeared.
Elfa and I looked at each other, and got back to work.
The moment was surreal and, the more I think about it, the less it makes sense.
This was the most far away pavilion from the building still in use as a clinic, and it was the most damaged and dangerous to be in, because the roof has collapsed completely on the first floor.
So it is unlikely 2 medics could ever think about taking there an underage patient with evident physical handicap and possible mental issues.
My wife is sure they were ghosts from the past, and probably she is right, but I prefer not to think about it...
I was telling you yesterday about Elfa not being the ideal model for me, and still one of the most heavenly beautiful models I've worked with.
But if I have it my way and manage to get my ideal model in this location, for example Barbora, this is how I plan to do it.
I will use a tripod, to keep the camera still and the composition leveled.
If the light is low, this will help also to avoid motion blur.
Having positioned the camera, I will be able to concentrate on directing the model and adjust focus, sure I can rely on her if I ask her to stand still!
Today on regular social media, you will get a photo similar to this one, but the more official frontal pose, where Elfa looks like a soldier at attention, but still scared.
Especially on these last 2 photos, I warmly advise to zoom in and check all the details this medium format sensor is capable of showing with lower ISO settings, and a good lens in front.
Also if these photos are focused with the subject far away from the camera, I still cannot see any sign of vignetting in the corners, or any other drop in optical performances, making this Planar design the best manual focus solution I could think of.
