I was considering the idea of buying lenses from brands, or periods in time, I have not yet sampled, just to give them a go, as a sort of photography encyclopedia, and the Pentax I used for this photo is a perfect example.
I had already 3 of the more recent SMC Pentax lenses, 28mm, 100mm macro, and 135mm (the latter donated by a follower), but none of the previous era, so I bought this inexpensive Pentax Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 M42 mount, and used it for nudes for the first time with Dovile, mounted on the Leica SL2-S.
The idea was to look also at other brands I never tried, and pick some hidden gem from their back catalog, like Olympus Zuiko, or Minolta Rokkor, to name a couple.
But then I was thinking I have already so many great lenses, that are usually considered so much better, that it makes no sense to add more brands of inferior quality.
I should look out only for some very special pieces instead, maybe more expensive and from the pinnacle brands like Leica or Zeiss, lens that can really give some different vibes to my work, and exploit the benefits of using high performance professional cameras with full frame or medium format sensors.
This was my theory, until I had a good look at the results I got from this humble Pentax Takumar lens from the 60ties!
After this revelation, I might decide to pursue both research on lenses, because also the economic ones are extremely capable even on high definition pro sensors.
Maybe this is because of the subjects I've chosen to photograph, as female portraits and nudes benefit from a gentler approach, but I have to admit these overlooked lenses are amazing on digital.
