Fujifilm GFX 50S II vs Leica SL2-S.

After the introduction of the past two days, it is time to show you The Endless Sinner in her full glory.
After years trying to work with her, it finally happened!
And the apartment she rented for the occasion was perfect, with a great view on Milano's skyline (you can see the Palace of the Lombardy region on her right), and grunge enough aspect to valorize this eclectic model.

To try on her the new Fujifilm GFX camera, I selected one of the most eclectic lenses ever created by Nikon, the ideal portrait lens of its time: the Nikon 135mm f2 Defocus Control.
For a special model, I needed a special approach, But I also used other lenses and cameras, to explore all the different aspects of her personality.

During this last week (4 days to be precise), I worked with 2 very different models, each with her unique charms, the wild sensuality of Maria on one end, and the refined madness of the Endless Sinner.
Once more, I've been convinced that nude portrait photography without the contribution of the human aspect of the models involved is completely useless, and AI is missing the point completely, creating empty shells and bi-dimensional rubbish.
The 3D pop I'm trying to enhance with my fancy cameras and lenses, would not work if in front of me I had nothing more than the best available models on the current scene.

Today I also want to tell you about my experience comparing 2 of my best ever cameras.
The GFX is not very pleasant to interact with, trivial design, functional materials, and a bad electronic viewfinder that makes difficult to judge focus and nearly impossible to detect focus peaking.
On the other hand, using the Leica SL2-S is a pleasure every time and in every respect, you would never want to let it down, and the viewfinder is a dream, even reviewing the pictures in the viewfinder or on the screen is a great reward.
But when the files leave the cameras, everything turns upside down.
DNGs from the Leica have weird colors I can't make sense of even after working on them for a long time, and there are no camera profiles in Lightroom to help. Low light performance is poor on the Leica, and I can't rely on stabilization for most focal lengths I use.
RAW files on the Fujifilm GFX are marvelous straight out of camera, and they get even better when you start applying the film profiles in Lightroom, or pushing them dynamically in every direction, these files never fall apart!
Medium format quality is a further help in making better pictures with the GFX.

Ok, now I get it. She is fantastic. I'm glad you are happy with the results of the GFX, even if it is not ideal to use.
