Ellie is messed up and quiet from her last experience but Joel opens up to her
about Sarah. He is trying to cheer her up (I love how close they've become) π
He then finds out from Marlene (not dead) that Ellie will have to undergo brain
surgery to make the cure. He goes JOHN WICK on everyone and escapes with
Ellie. He tells her everything about the Fireflies is true (they're good) but he lies.
He also tells her that they found someone else to make the cure.
π I enjoyed the backstory & birth of Ellie. I will not be playing the game but I'm
looking forward to Season 2 π

Her motivation for protecting Ellie was to do the right thing, help save the world and redeem herself (and Joel) from all the shit they've done in the past. Joel just went and not only got in the way of the world being saved but also added a lot more blood on his hands (out of love for Ellie, of course, but still). That being said, I really enjoyed your reactions and I'm looking forward to Season 2 and for you to watch it (I've played the second game and I like its story even more than the first, so hopefully the series will get even better too).

All the main cast from the game had roles in the show (Marlene was the only one that got the same role). The giraffe was real; they trained it for a while to get used to the green screens etc. They've (as you edited in) confirmed the second season, but also confirmed it's a while away.
