I still like it, but it’s def a valid critique. Also I HATEEEE “The Giver” it’s kind of like Chappell Roan sellout/Ed Sheeran behavior

That “what if” scenario that reminds me a lot of the “ Enchanted” synopsis. The song is not at the same caliber as “Enchanted” by any means, but I appreciate the sentiment of “The Subway” and I like the alternate and different way than the typical song structure. I like the thoughtfulness and relatability, and Chappell Roan pining and showing vulnerability in this so called, maybe single for her next album. Perspective of the “enchanted” plot makes me like the song better.

I can understand Zach‘s point of view that the song doesn‘t really take off during the chorus, that part isn‘t as strong as in her other songs. I don‘t really miss a bridge though because the outro introduces a new melody.

2025-08-02 09:54:09 +0000 UTCThe problem with a lot of these songs coming out lately is that they’re doing this horny-for-the-sake-of-being-horny thing. Probably because they all watched artists like Chappell & Sabrina blow up, saw a common theme of overtly sexual lyrics & themes to a lot of those songs so it’s almost as if they thought “This is what’s trending so now I will do that too” but then it ultimately just ends up coming off as performative or contrived. There is something inauthentic happening when they try to do these cheap dupes of other trending artists and I think we as listeners feel that on some level. “Casual” isn’t a great song just because she’s “knee deep in the passenger seat”, it’s because it’s about something REAL and the listener knows it is real & we can feel it so I think we also feel when it’s just for show too & that’s what Renee Rapp’s album is giving (However, I actually did like the 3rd song of hers that you played though but I can’t remember the name) And Sabrina Carpenter can also veer into the “sex is my shtick” or shock bait territory at times too, but I guess it just still feels on brand for her lol Or at least it doesn’t seem as forced as it does for some of these other girls- and I’m lumping some of Lourdes's latest stuff in there too.

Like in the interviews I've watched she is SO endearing and funny and MESSY, but in the music I'm getting shallow messiness, like you said, "I fuck, I drink, I'm SO hot." Also for an album called Bite Me, why is HALF the album boring ballads like girl stop it noooooooow. Half the lyrics in those ballads also call for more grungy and harsh production but we aren't getting that. Given how Sabrina managed to climb out of the depths of emails i cant send and the boring slop a lot of it was, I'm not ready to write Renee off just yet, I think she needs new and quite frankly better collaborators, like Sabrina did during her eics era. I thought the rumors of her being in the studio with Dan Nigro was a good sign but it turned out to be for a boring ballad like make it make sense plsss.

I feel like Chappell is wearing a costume and gained fame doing an unsustainable act but underneath she is that girl who made all of those wannabe Lorde songs. I don’t get a clear artistic mission. I love the drag inspired aesthetic but it is an aesthetic it doesn’t feel authentic. Midwest princess is about 60% brilliant and I really hope not a one hit wonder. It just made me more excited for the new King Princess album in September.

A lot of the previous stuff she did, performing the song months before the single drops, inconsistent single release times... was passable because she was new & building her fanbase. At this point, she's performed at & won a grammy. So, a lot of attention is going to be on her. Allowing a single to sit with the public without the full album artistic statement can work if the single is amazing, like Good Luck, Babe. But idk these are not gripping me the same way the singles from her debut did.

I think it would've been better if Chappell just did the super super super long hair and not the cousin it hair in the beginning of the video, cause later in the video when its just super long it works so good for the video. also I think I would've liked the subway more if I hadn't heard it over a YEAR ago !! same with the giver although to me this song is miles better than the giver (I like both though). I used to like Renee rapp but bite me was sooooo bad. I really liked the singles from snow angel. also btw the video quality is almost too good, lowkey giving AI generated... obviously it's not but it's tripping me up ! it's almost too good idk. its like giving black mirror swiftologist I dont know.

This song is 1 year old! Everyone has already heard it, just like she got ahead of herself with singing the Giver in SNL an then took ages to put it out. I guess that’s the modus operandi she used when she wasn’t really famous, but now all eyes are on her, she needs some kind of strategy.
