What's up, homies! We're continuing through the Studio Ghibli filmography with Kiki's Delivery Service. Only one of us hasn't seen this one, so it'll be fun to see what they think of this little adventure.

Stay tuned for our reaction to Porco Rosso!

First time watching this movie. Thought it very wholesome and light hearted. Surprising to hear Phil Hartman's voice. Only used to hearing him in old Simpsons episodes. But I wonder if Kiki was meant to go to another city to get proper training as a witch. Or was she meant to settle in a new town/ city to offer help when needed. I did think the two elderly women were going to be her mentors that would teach Kiki how to hone her skills. Or that the artist would turn out to a witch too. I also didn't think the bread maker would turn out to be the husband.

That surprised me as well haha. I love the original music

There's a post-credit scene to this one! Not necessarily essential but it's a nice scene. The end credits are lovely and give more context to the ending as well :)

First time watching in English here, I'm a big shocked that they replaced the iconic songs with 90s pop πŸ˜‚

This may have been my Ghibli movie as well. I know you are trying to go kind of in order (Fireflies excepted), but I don't think you did Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (technically not Ghibli, but it's the same team that lead to the foundation of Ghibli), or Laputa: Castle in the Sky. I know leaving at age 13 is young, though we see that as a witch trope (I think Augstin mentioned Harry Potter as an example). In the original book, the girl was 12, the same age as the author's daughter at the time. I do like that she has such a loving and supportive family and community. I think Hector mentioned getting an anime book. For Ghilbi in particular, I recommend Ghibliotheque, based on a podcast where they went through each of the movies (and have gone on to explore other great works in anime and animation). If you want to see what Tress MacNeille looks like, she plays Lucy in the Weird Al video for "Ricky". They were lucky to get her just before she got famous. :) And for a fun take on Studio Ghibli food, there is a "Try Not To Eat" challenge (or maybe two) of Ghibli food on YouTube which are amusing to watch. Thanks so much for doing this, guys. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I would love to recommend the works on Satoshi Kon, which will be back in theaters over the next 6 months (starting with Perfect Blue in early September). They are more serious and deal with more adult themes, but excellent stories and art. The downside is they don't seem to be available for free streaming on the major services. The same is true with the excellent works of Mikoto Shinkai, with the exception of Weathering With You available on Max.

The first Ghibili movie I ever watched and it is still one of my faves!
