What's up, homies! So far, House of the Dragon has won us over and we're having a good time exploring the Game of Thrones universe. We're excited to see how this s*** show continues.

House of the Dragon 1x2 Uncut Reaction!

Comments

First i want to say that i love watching you guys but I am a bit put off with your reactions to this show. I am a big GOT and HOT fan. I was excited that you guys decided to give this show a watch but I feel like you are forcing yourself to watch it. The jokes throughout the reactions are very distracting. The pacing in this show is faster because we are focused on one house were as GOT we had 7 houses to deal with. I understand about the gross factor but in those times women were married as young as 13. I would love it if you guys would really pay attention to this show because there are a lot of revelations in the next couple of episodes. I will always support this channel but I am torn on continuing the reactions to this show.

Thanks y’all for sticking with it. Y’all don’t know how much joy it gives me that y’all are watching this show! Hector, sweet baby Angel, please stick with this 😂 give it a chance and I hope you will end up kind of liking it lol love y’all

Lina Robins

Can Hector at least rag on the show after watching lol. The constant ribbing and jokes make it hard to follow the details. First time GOT watcher here.

Y’all are gonna hate where this is going LOL I appreciate you guys giving it a chance though

So in the books, Alicent is 17 when she starts “seducing” King Viserys, at the request of her father. She is 18 when she marries Viserys and he is 37. So it’s still pretty young, but not as bad as the show. For whatever reason, they decided to age Alicent down to 16 for the show and age Viserys up to 39/40. I’m thinking it’s because they wanted her to be more close in age to Princess Rhaenyra, so there would be more conflict between the two. I know all the incest and “pedo” vibes is a turn off, but I promise the story is very well written and engaging once you give it a chance. In this world, King Viserys is actually a “good person” and choosing to marry a woman outside of his bloodline and of “marrying age” is actually pretty admirable of him.

I have to agree about the MSTK3 vibe at times. I know that jokes can be a coping mechanism to avoid certain feelings but I hope to see some more vulnerability in the reactions.

I know its a reaction video and there will be talking but I encourage you to not always talk over the quieter moments in between the big scenes. So much character development happens within the small interactions. These characters are very layered and nuanced. Also, you're not going to like every decision these characters make, you're not supposed to, but you'll understand the characters for better or worse. Try to open yourself up to the story and experience. Be vulnerable and take in what is being told.

A couple things, I know the whole predator thing is uncomfortable which I agree it is very weird and uncomfortable but I guess this is how George made his world and sooner I kind of accepted that for this show and setting the more I was able to focus on the main story and all the smaller stories. I watched GoT and enjoyed it very much so for me it was a bit easier to get past the shenanigans but I understand that is is off putting. However, I hope you all continue to watch it because it is truly an amazing show, I was hooked from the beginning and I know what happens at the very end and still am excited for the next season. There are multiple time jumps in the show some small some larger, the show doesn’t flat out say it but if you pay attention to dialogue you will easily realize it.

To Adam’s point about the story having some traction and being easy to follow compared to GoT; This show has the advantage of staying very localized to King’s Landing and a couple other locations. A major flaw in GoT was that you could never grasp how much time was passing or had passed between certain scenes across episodes because we were bouncing all around Westeros and Essos.

So glad you guys are watching this! It is an interesting, and rare, perspective to see people watch this show who didn't watch [all of] Game of Thrones and see what you notice and how you are piecing things together. Especially since usually at least one of you really knows the source material of what you are watching and can even educate and break things down for us the audience (a quality that is what initially drew me to your channel, but it is nice to see you guys on the other side). To Hector's point about this show feeling similar, technologically and aesthetically, to Game of Thrones that happens hundreds of years later – that was something that came up when the premiere first aired, so good callout. I can't remember if it was The Ringer's 'House of R' or another podcast that brought up how GRRM has very clearly pulled inspiration from European history (with Game of Thrones being inspired by The Wars of the Roses and the events of House of the Dragon being inspired by The Anarchy - when King Henry I named his daughter as heir). And most of the events that he draws from are from near the end of the Dark Ages – which was a time of technological stagnation and decline that lasted 900 years after the fall of the Roman Empire. And in this world, the stand-in for Rome is Old Valyria, which they have now mentioned a few times, which had advanced technology and magic and thousands of dragons before its fall a few hundred years before this story takes place (with only a vague explanation of what happened to it that sounds like a mixture of Pompeii and The Lost City of Atlantis known as "the Doom"). One example of that lost technology you will hear about is Valyrian Steel which no one knows how to make anymore, not even the Targaryens. BUT also, I am sure that some of the same logic that had The Force Awakens feel like A New Hope is present here too – let the audience feel that nostalgia and comfort in a world they already know and love. Excited to see your thoughts on the rest of the season! (And if it can win all of you over enough to watch GoT.)

Y’all are in for a RIDE lol

First off, I think it's a wild (by wild I mean Bold) choice to watch this show before Game of Thrones, but to each their own. It'll certainly be interesting if you decide to tackle Game of Thrones as well. This is a re-watch for me. I was a big fan of the GoT series and in between seasons I also read the books that have been released so far. As a fan of the world of Westeros that GRRM created, I was a bit put off by the first episode reaction and most of this reaction. It felt like I was watching MST3K with the constant jokes and side tracks about other shows. However, as episode 2 finished up it seemed like y'all zeroed in on some themes or story details that held your interest. Even if some story details are not to your liking or interest I hope you can find other aspects that make it worth your time and attention. I know some of the story choices that GRRM made are stomach turning, but look at it from an art perspective. What can be so intriguing about A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones is how it subverts the typical fantasy story. How it re-tells the traditions of heroic knights and good kings and evil wizards and terrible dragons. And how it lifts up individuals as heroes and exposes leaders as cowards. Take the original Game of Thrones story - a heroic knight defeats the evil king and weds the beautiful princess. GRRM asks, now what? What happens when that brave knight now has to rule? What happens if the evil king had hidden family and now they want revenge? A Song of Ice and FIre is a compelling story wrapped in sometimes shocking clothing. But it's worth a read (or watch) in my opinion. I hope y'all enjoy the ride.
