Andor 1x09 Uncut Reaction!
Added 2022-11-03 02:31:27 +0000 UTC
What's up, homies! Welcome back to another reaction to Andor. I think this might be our favorite episode so far because it is INTENSE as hell but oh-so good.
The short scene with Mon in the Senate was powerful. It’s a thread from the role that chamber played in the prequels to “boring and throwaway” lines in A New Hope.
From Padme thinking she was doing the right thing for her people by calling for a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum (Terrance Stamp). To Palpatine being nominated to take his place (“A surprise, to be sure”). To the Separatist threat pushing the Senate to grant him temporary emergency power for a war he created and controlled both sides of. To fabricating the Jedi rebellion to proclaim himself Emperor.
To this scene, where the Senate is shutting itself down either out of allegiance or fear. This is crucial.
Because, lastly, the lines in A New Hope in the Death Star meeting room come to fruition.
General Tagge: And until this battle station is fully operational, we are vulnerable.
The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped. They're more dangerous than you realize.
Admiral Motti: Dangerous to your starfleet, Commander, not to this battle station.
General Tagge: The Rebellion will continue to gain a support in the Imperial Senate.
Grand Moff Tarkin: The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away.
General Tagge: That's impossible! How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?
Grand Moff Tarkin: The regional governors now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.
You’ve gotta hand it to Palpatine (and George and the Andor writers). He’s brilliant at taking over a galaxy. Patient. Precise. This scene with Mon shows how easy it was for him to shut it down. And if anyone wants to voice dissent? They have a f*ing Death Star.

The ending of this episode made me sick, so evil. great reaction, really loving Andor, it is really awesome to see how the rebellion started.

Both sides have power hungry people. We’re humans after all.

Hey Hector. I agree with your sentiments but I think generalizing “Dems vs Republicans” is exactly what that side wants. I think there should be more nuance beyond us vs them. But cheers boys to an amazing series.

100% to the reaction and comments. I totally dig this show. Some easters eggs too. Will elaborate on some later. I love beeing left in the dark how it will all resolve, no clue, that's expert storytelling. Acting, writing and camera work, directing cannot be better. Outstanding. Hope it will get many emmy nominations. (previously misposted here on the wrong entry). BTW: Adam without glasses, interesting...

This is a very gripping episode. Some surprises e.g. Vel as a cousin of "Mom" Mothma, never saw that one coming. The performances, writing, directing, everything is outstanding, really a joy to watch. The show put a deep stake in the ground that Star Wars can be done very differently, without Jedi and black-and-white painting. The tension comes from the finesse of the storytelling, the very precisely drawn characters and intertwined, most carefully worked out plot lines. Visually and musically also outstanding. The whole thing is on such a high level that even the haters on Youtube kick the bucket. Finally!

Man this episode was so intense, I loved it. I also found it super interesting that they turned Syril into a stalker, and that scene was super disturbing. I still felt for Daedra even though she was just torturing someone. Man this show is amazing! To make me feel so many contrasting feelings so suddenly.

I think that Andor is up there with the writing of early seasons of GoT, The Wire, and a few other really intense shows, but the subtleties are where the power lies. Everyone has their own rebellion, everyone is in their own prison, everyone has their own secrets. I think next episode is going to be the prison escape, but I'm curious as to when the uprising on Ferrix is going to happen (and it's going to happen after the hangings and possibly Marva's passing. Nothing like a little rioting to let off some pressure). Love your reactions for this episode - looking forward to next week!

Watching the post-show discussion - the creator said that it's 1-3, 4-6, 7, 8-10, and then 11-12. So they break out next week, almost certainly.

I love how Andor shows that Facism is clearly more terrifying than the dark side alone ever was

1) You guys are doing great with your reaction videos. Loved your "Rings of Power" reactions & am loving your reactions for "Andor." 2) Both of those fandoms have ppl that love to nitpick & I hope you don't get too dismayed by them. 3) After the last couple of Andor episodes, I actually thought about ranking this show right up there with my favorite SW film, "Empire Strikes Back." That's how good this show is! I never imagined I'd be saying that because I was just so-so on "Rogue One." 4) The writing on this show is so good. 1977 SW was always political. But Andor really elevates it to another level. Like great sci-fi, it puts a lens to our own world & magnifies the problems & issues we are doing with in the current day. 5) I'm glad you all are enjoying it as much as I am. 6) Everyone go vote!

Omg, you missed Zardu Hasselfrau... OK but in all seriousness, hot damn what a crazy episode. That cut from Bixx being tortured to drilling on that piece of equipment in the prison. Woo. They really know how to ratchet up the tension in this show.

When Andy Serkis says “never more than 12” I felt a new hope.

Incredible episode - notice how they kept switching between the different plots without any sort of scene setting, which really helped drive home the intensity of the events... just BAM! Cassian, BAM! Imperials, BAM! Cassian, BAM! Mon Mothma, BAM! Cassian... I often found myself mildly disconcerted as I took a beat to realize they had switched to a different plot.

Watching Kino gradually see the futility of the situation, and then that final line. Andy Serkis did amazing this episode. Also, I'm starting to wonder if those 400,000 credits Mon Mothma's trying to cover up are what eventually will lead to her having to go full-time rebel. It feels like her life is beginning to slowly unravel. Plus, having Vel revealed as her cousin - I wonder if that's also going to play a part in her choice to stop hiding. Makes me very worried about Vel's future.

Also feels for the line "Never more than 12", made me thing of the size of a jury and the film 12 angry men and several other films related to oppression.

All of your reactions to the floor 2 stuff, amazing! This show from the oppressed side of the empire examines humanity resistance. I love how the language has avoided the term terrorist.
