373 - Quick Post.

THE WORLD NEWS. Two flops from two different corporations happened last week. Assassins' Creed from Ubisoft and Snowwhite from Disney. Not that I care too much about it but it was really wholesome to see gamers rally behind Yasuke Simulator. And they also left plenty of heartwarming reviews as well. This whole thing kind of reminded me of the early days of the internet. 
STEAM DECK. I have purchased it a while back actually, and was waiting for the right moment to brag about it, but I am starting to think "the right moment" will never come. So there is that.
THE SHOP. Nothing new in the shop this week. Sorry. Will try to add something next week.
THE WORK. Spent last week writing. And rewriting, and writing again. Nothin to report really, just really tedious process of turning my ideas into text.

2025-03-26 06:20:22 +0000 UTCI understand your confusion. It's a matter of metrics. Black Flag sold 11 million copies in a year. Valhalla sold over 20 million. Most sales of big ticket games are on release, which to whit is 2 million players (not sales, PLAYERS, including those on the subscription service) for Shadows. Since the constant demand by investors is growth merely having big numbers out the gate isn't enough if sales and player base drop off a cliff once the 'youtube rush' runs it's course. Sure the player count high of 64 thousand looks impressive. But Helldivers 2 is currently running 48 thousand at 1 AM midweek and it's already survived a player hemorrhage event. Hell right now there are 1500 players on BLACK FLAG.... a game that's 11 years old. 2 million copies and a bunch of positive reviews is a financial fart in the wind to a company as massive as Ubisoft. You think developing and marketing it took less than the 120 million that a 60 dollar retail pricetag of 2 million units reaches BEFORE taxes are ripped out of it? And keep in mind it's been in development for 5 years. I wish games were that cheap to make. Never let big numbers dazzle you, the game may manage something yet but so far it's a definitive flop and the growth has already stalled. It might surprise people, but I wouldn't put money on it despite all the screaming about it by the paid pro-shills and the positive spin by some media outlets. Remember, this game and their attitude also cost them pretty much any goodwill Japan had for the series, and that's a rather large market for video games. When you pre-lose a large body of gamers projections become grimmer. It's not the most devastating loss some are painting it as, in fact it may come in over Odyssey long term, but with Ubisoft bleeding goodwill, player base, money and talent 'good enough' isn't going to be good enough. They needed a smash and they corked that up real bad, so bad the game's actual quality may not matter. Remember no matter what you want to do with a game you have to have an audience large enough to make it a profit, and the larger your company the larger that profit has to be. And Ubisoft is VERY LARGE.

He mentioned Yasuke Simulator, which is a hilarious indie game with a thick helping of actual Japanese satire and a catchy soundtrack. You must be very easily confused in life since one is a triple A money pit and the other is a quick indie comedy piece. Now kindly pipe down, someone who actually makes the games they want to see in the world has things to say.

He would mock both sides of the spectrum, making fun of political correctness, racism, magatards, etc. In my opinion he was never on a "side" and made fun of everyone while drawing sexy ladies, femboys, futanaries, trans, incest, etc. Akabur spends SO MUCH time on social media and on here insisting that the games industry is victimizing him by... doing things that don't appeal to him personally.
