A WarHams, Patreon, etc Update!

Hey everyone!

I and the WarHams crew wanted to give you an update on what’s going on behind the scenes. Namely, the things we’re working on, thinking about, and what’s coming soon.

First, I wanted to say thank you for your generous support. We never thought that WarHams would grow up to this size. It has been a bit intimidating for all of us, but we’re all dedicated to doing our best for all of you!

One of the fundamental things we’ve been working on is readdressing the Patreon. Along with how to address new folks joining in.

We won’t lie, we’re fairly new to Patreon itself. And it doesn’t have a great interface to get you the content you want. And since we handle things here that aren’t the most compatible with Patreon, things get lost. I am looking into how to best remedy this. Either something involving our website or finding out how to Patreon better. But this isn’t the only thing we’re looking to fine-tune and adjust.

Complications for WarHams 40K have added a lot of hilarity to the show. But we’re finding some flaws in the system, as it has affected the campaign and the show in some negative ways. Not major, but it’s causing some concerns.

What we’ve done is shift the language to be more clear on how we’re approaching Patreon submitted complications. Along with providing better guidelines on what type of complications we can accept. We understand that some want a funny meme complication to happen, but we usually avoid those to sustain the campaign’s tone and direction.

Here is what we’ll be adjusting:

• Those contributing to submit their complications may put in a few complication suggestions each month.
• I will put these complications into a pool for us to pull from.
• There is no promised guarantee that your complication will be used. Because of the improv nature of our party, and the randomness of TTRPGs, it’s impossible to guarantee someone that we’ll use their submission.
• We’ll be adjusting the tier’s messaging for this.
  
  

A question that a few raised was, will there be complications for WarHams Fantasy? We’re deciding to not have WarHams fantasy become influenced by the audience. Which means there will be no donation incentives to boost a player’s chances of succeeding, and no complication results for any mishaps. Due to it being a different system, complications sadly wouldn’t work. We feel since everyone here contributed to make the show happen, that we do not need to make any monetary systems to help afford the show as well. Since you all made that happen.

Now for the things we’re working on!

WarHams Recaps

Every TTRPG show faces this type of problem. When someone says “I’m only at episode X, I’m so far behind.” or “This show has so many episodes, I’ll never catch up.” and also “I’m not caught up, so I don’t want to watch the video/stream and be spoiled.”

We want to find ways that allow people to catch up with the show faster. The major story beats mainly, the major jokes we think we’ll leave out, so if people ever decide to listen to the older episodes they’ll be able to enjoy it more.

We’re thinking of doing these as animated comic dubs, similar to the fan dub of Cucumber Quest (Link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9SOrMVpqkg)

This also ties into the WarHams web comic we’re wanting to make as well. With some internal change, we’re hoping to get this going fairly soon.

WarHams Podcast

This is something we’ve been trying to figure out for a while. To clarify, this is more of a talk show style podcast. We’re looking to hash this out soon and provide something else for people to listen to while the next episode of WarHams revs up. Sorry for not much on this, but we wanted to say that this is still a priority for us.

WarHams Fantasy

We sadly have to delay the premiere episode of WarHams Fantasy to May 8th. We still have a couple of test episodes we’d like to get done. And we had to delay due to one player moving to a new city. So we apologize for that!

Our overlay is coming together nicely, and we’re super excited to slay Skaven and become corrupted by Chaos in Warhammer Fantasy with all of you soon!

That’s most of the updates for now. We have a lot going on and we’re doing our best for all of you. One question we’d like to ask is what other TTRPGs would you be interested in us playing? We’ve been thinking about doing several one shots of other systems, along with creating a multi-party story campaign. Would these be something you’d be interested in?
