(198X) Hi-Lo Mix

A brief interlude from writing factbook entries.

You may be wondering where I've been this month--well, 85 pages into the factbook, and something like two-thirds done with the text (illustrations, graphic design, etc. notwithstanding). Suffice to say there's a small mountain of lore awaiting you with 1.0. I've balked at posting another run of excerpts without illustrations to accompany them (since those have been on the backburner while the writing happens), but I may well do it anyways.

In the meantime: a couple Devleti sketches. They're a post-1.0 faction, of course, so no serious work on them until the game's out (lest it take another 3-5 business millenia to finish), but they've made for an enjoyable breather-subject throughout.

Left guy is a demoralized conscript of the national army (in game terms: 10 point line infantry). I'm fairly happy with how his design came together: bits of Iraqi, Italian, Egyptian, East German, and hand-me-down US kit. I wanted his gear to look just a little cheap; these guys don't get much, but they're not broke. It's fighting spirit that they're dangerously low on.

On the right: a member of the futurist speed-and-violence cult now helming the revolutionary government. Still knocking their design together; this one's interesting, but I'm not altogether satisfied with it. The dazzle camo smock seems like a promising angle; the Italian paratrooper helmet, not so much. He wields some kind of EM-2/XL64-esque rifle with the design parameters of the Halo CE AR, i.e. an uncontrollable full-caliber bullet hose feeding from a casket magazine.

Refining the specifics will come later. I've got more lore to write.
