But from seeing how the character turned out in the first part, I had to respect their methods; this character seems to take advantage of situations. Rather than being a sadist who enjoys asserting dominance and causing pain, he is looking for ways he can get what he wants. If he notices a mistake you've made, he will hone in on that to make you look bad. To make you feel guilty and to then pressure you into giving him what he wants.
An interesting question is, do you think this character is aware of his own behaviour, or do you think he himself is emotionally unstable and genuinely believes his own victimisation and his boyfriend's alleged duplicity?
