Haikyuu!! 4x22 Reaction Extended (YT link below)
Added 2023-09-04 18:58:59 +0000 UTCIn Haikyuu 4x22, Pitons, Hinata is the piton we didn't know Karasuno needed, because we didn't know what a piton was.

2023-09-05 16:17:56 +0000 UTCThis show is so so great. I can't fully express how much I like this story and am glad you are finally experiencing the awesomeness of this story but also sad that it is coming to an end. I look forward to the rest of Haikyuu and more Mr.Goodwin reactions and I sincerely hope you will watch the movies when they are out:) I am most excited to see the conclusion and HxH comes in at close second. Also JJK will be a ride and a half too! I'm enjoying watching your reactions a great deal.

2023-09-05 12:51:35 +0000 UTCGod, the freaking water works I had during this episode my first watch! It’s so so satisfying to see Hinata put everything he has learned and practiced into action😭 The feeling you get when you’ve been working so hard finally comes into fruition…there’s no other feeling. It’s just crazy how proud I feel for him🥹

2023-09-05 05:10:36 +0000 UTC- 4:53 Omimi says to Tanaka "You don't got much more than that" --> the original was 'tsuke-yaki-ba.' It's a great word. It means a piece of metal that's basically just had an edge put on it in a hurry at the last minute so that you can use it as a sword/blade. In other words, something that just gets the job done for now until we can forge a proper weapon, or yet in other words, a "stop gap" measure. The word is used often in that much broader sense, and I think it's interesting to think that the Inarizaki perception of Tanaka is basically someone just "filling in a hole" in the team instead of being an integral part of it. - 14:50 That is a piton. ;)

2023-09-05 04:58:26 +0000 UTCHonestly, I think that, despite the animation difference, I like the Inarizaki match better than the Shiratorizawa match. Still love the latter, but the former is just so dynamic.

2023-09-05 01:25:17 +0000 UTCI had a whole long spiel about it in my overly long comment on Episode 16, basically saying what you said here Aanvik. :) I also personally think it's not a great translation and that something like "We ain't need no memories" or "We ain't come here for no memories" would better convey the personality that the Kansai-ben has, but even as is, it's "technically accurate."

2023-09-05 01:18:58 +0000 UTCI've been at work the whole day so I haven't seen the reaction yet, but just one thing for now: BEHOLD!!!! Haha. The "Baby Bird" music theme in its (so far) final form: "Piton." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xoa7nPR-NFA (For reference, the original Baby Bird theme is here: https://youtu.be/F34r-kXb804?si=lMyvYUzdp5tjNKmA&t=27)

2023-09-05 01:10:03 +0000 UTCBefore watching Haikyuu, I was subscribed to Aleczandxr’s channel and knew Hinata was his favorite protagonist among the hundreds he’s seen. So as I was watching I was thinking “why?”. I got a glimpse of this in season 4 and he became my second favorite character by the end the manga, and possibly my favorite anime protagonist.

2023-09-05 00:08:30 +0000 UTCI totally get it man, there are so many characters across works of fiction that I love for many different reasons, but I don't think there's a character who I simultaneously connect with and look up to more than Shoyo Hinata. I always felt attached to Hinata as someone who adores a particular sport and has been hindered by height, so seeing the journey Hinata goes through by the end of the manga inspires me like no other work of fiction ever has.

2023-09-04 23:35:05 +0000 UTCI can speak for Hinata that I think the reason is that he is the protagonist. And often the protagonist’s journey is only complete at the very end. Whereas you can have a wide range of amazing side characters with ‘complete’ arcs. Not to say a person’s favourite characters are only so when you have seen their full arc but I hope you know what I mean. With Haikyuu having such a huge ensemble with really not a single unlikeable character, it’s easy for people to have characters above Hinata. And Hinata only became my favourite during and after the Inarizaki game. He was always in my top 5 but then he jumped hugely for me. And by the final arc… I knew that he became something truly special. Kageyama is another example of this for me. There’s a very particular chapter towards the end of the manga that changes everything for him and suddenly it clicked for me just how special he was to me too. I think it’s a really amazing thing about stories that you can revisit one and suddenly a character just shines through in a way that you didn’t notice first time round. Edward in FMAB is a classic example for me. It took me a whole decade of rewatching to realise he was shared as my no.1 favourite in the series.

2023-09-04 21:49:02 +0000 UTCNo Joke, Haikyuu is the first media I've watched that helped me with so many one liner wisdoms. They're so simple most of the time but I bet some of them are really powerful to a lot of people. It helps so much with competing but honestly in life general too. Oh yeah remember all the people who said that nobody but hinata and kageyama should try the minus quick? Atsumus are here to shut everybody up real quick lmao One more thing about Hinatas recieve: noya told him in season 1 that the crowd goes wildest when they see an insane recieve. So Hinata having his first real recive in a big stadium like this, infront of so many people, from a top 5 spiker in japan...We all know how much hungrier he gets now.

2023-09-04 21:38:49 +0000 UTCI’ve said before that Hinata is a contender for my favorite character, but that was only after the manga. I always feel bad when a character that becomes one of my favorites is a character I didn’t always appreciate, or even like until their good qualities and the apex of their arc was shoved in my face. The worst part is that the character never “got good”, they were always good, I just never appreciated it until later. So I never shame them again and be their biggest fan as penance. Another example for me is Usopp in One Piece.

2023-09-04 21:10:53 +0000 UTCThe best ball boy. The Greatest Decoy. My sunshine boy. The best boy. 😭😭😭 It’s fascinating to me that with my absolute favourite pieces of fiction I actually find it super difficult to fully articulate the reasons why they are so. Same goes with characters. So the question of “Why is Hinata Shoyo your favourite character in fiction” can be actually challenging for me to communicate with people. One, the answer is about his full journey as a protagonist so I can only really talk about it with manga readers mostly. And two, when I do talk I often get choked up just speaking about him. I don’t know what kinda head space Furudate was in around this time in the story but some how they managed to completely hone in EXACTLY what they wanted to say with the series. I think you can really tell with this episode that the writing feels like it has shifted. It really does feel like the series is a ‘before Kita’ and ‘after Kita’. And like I’ve said previously, it’s not like all that was before wasn’t amazing too. It just feels like the series has now turned into something maturer and complete now. Also Inarizaki mindset and banner is probably my favourite in the series. I LOVE this game soo much.

2023-09-04 21:09:08 +0000 UTC“We don’t need the memories” doesn’t translate well but from what I understand it’s a reference to a saying in Japanese that is often used by weaker/ unserious teams. Something along the lines of “hey we lost but at least we made some good memories.” Inarizaki is essentially saying they’re not here to make up the numbers. I’m sure the Japanese experts will explain this much better though

2023-09-04 21:03:13 +0000 UTCI love that you're picking up on the fact that the show is so much more than about volleyball. It's a story about following your passions and working towards goals and they achieve that through the lens of sports but it applies to almost every area of life. Just 3 more episodes left and I'm gonna cry when it's over.
